Portal 2 details lifted from casting call

PC Rumour | Even the cake needs to audition...
According to a report out of Kotaku an anonymous tipster has lifted the lid on Portal 2's production.

According to this tipster, a casting call was supposedly available on a subscribers-only industry website called Breakdown Express. Specifically, this particular casting call is listing a voice-acting job for Valve software - for work on Portal 2 which according to the casting call is said to begin in "tentatively end of July, 2008".

For those of you that do not want to be spoiled, we suggest that you turn away now. For those of you that want to know more about the title's proposed characters, come a little closer to the screen... as the casting call has also revealed a character profile on one of the titles reported characters.

The character in question is Cave Johnson, the now-dead boss of Aperture Science (which you would know if you obsessively tooled around the Aperture Science website like some of us Portal nuts) which gives off the notion that Portal 2 may be running the prequel route.

Of course, the casting call could be nothing more than a clever ruse used to throw rabid fans off the Portal scent, but until Valve sheds some light on the subject, be rest assured that gamers will continue to fill online forums with their many speculations on this breaking story.

Thanks for the spoiler warning, I managed to avert my gaze just in time. Might be worth using the "[spoiler_]" tags if possible though, I found it very tempting to just keep reading.

Without having read the spoiler, I can say that having multiple voice actors means little given that GLaDoS had a few different voices. Other voices might just be recordings that the protagonist can play, so with any luck this title will remain light on characters like the first one did. So many games screw up because they fail to render realistic characters - one of the brilliant design decisions of Portal was to cut down the character count to around 2-4 (depending on how you define "character"), which meant a much more personal and involving relationship could be created.

It was all one woman barring the screaming of Mike Patton at the end. Even the song was the same voice actress.

Portal can do no wrong by me. Portal 2 could end with a Flying Saucer exploding out from under the Enrichment Center and reveal that the Weighted Companion Cube built C-3PO and I would still love it.

very interesting news indeed. i hope they do keep the characters to a minimum. it adds to the whole feeling of the game. you are the only one in the entire facility, even in the back rooms and observation areas. it really makes GlaDOS so much more important, and chilling to know that she probably killed them all of, except the test subjects.

Personly I'll be sad to see GlaDOS go.
