Star Trek MMO revealed

PC News | Set phasers to stun.
Along time ago, in a galaxy far, far, — yeah, we know, wrong franchise, right? Nonetheless, a long time ago (2004 to be precise, which is an eon in gaming terms, it seems), an online Star Trek game was announced by Perpetual Entertainment. The same title was cancelled earlier this year, but recently, rumours surfaced that the title was soon to be resurrected by Cryptic Studios.

Well, chalk one up for the rumour mill, as it has turned out to be wholly correct. Today, Cryptic Studios revealed on startrekonline.com that they are indeed developing and publishing Star Trek Online, an MMO set in the Star Trek universe. Cryptic chief creative officer, Jack Emmert, emphasised that "Star Trek was never about a single character, ship or even planet; Star Trek was always about an entire universe. And MMORPGs are uniquely suited to create such a thing and allow players to explore every inch ... We see Star Trek as much about exploration as combat."

The first gameplay footage and details about the MMO will be revealed by Cryptic at the annual Star Trek Convention on August 10, so stay tuned to PALGN for more. While you wait, we've got the first screenshots below in the media panel.

It looks great but it doesn't seem like Star Trek.

It kinda reminds me more of Halo. icon_confused.gif

it would be good if it follows from the starts from Enterprise and works its way to the 29th century that you see in Voyager.
