Spore bargain round-up

PC News | Evolution might be cheaper than you thought.
It’s time to evolve microscopic organisms into thriving civilisations, Spore is hitting store shelves tomorrow. While some of you managed to buy a copy over the past two days, those who patiently waited for the official release date can benefit from our list of specials across Aussie retailers. To start off though, we’re going to explain the differences between each version.

Spore is currently available on two systems: the PC and Nintendo DS. There are two different packs for the PC version, one is simply a standard edition of the game while the other is a special edition pack, dubbed Spore: Galactic Edition. As you can guess, the Galactic Edition contains a few bonuses that include a Making of Spore DVD, How to Make a Better Being DVD, The Art of Spore mini-book, a poster and a 100-page Galactic handbook. The standard edition normally costs $99.95, while the Galactic Edition’s retail price is $139.95. Spore Creatures for the Nintendo DS retails for $59.95. Unlike the PC versions, the game focuses on the Creature Stage of your organism, and has players try to survive on a mysterious island.

With that out the way, the standard edition of Spore will be only $74 at Big W, while two alternative options are Kmart and JB Hi-Fi, who are charging $79. Spore: Galactic Edition is currently available for $119 at Dick Smith Electronics / Power House, with EB Games selling it for $119.95. Finally, Spore Creatures for the DS is only $48.84 at Big W, while Kmart continues to be the second best option with a $49.95 price tag.

Hmm, I think I might have got it wrong. The suggest retail price for the Galactic edition might be $139.95.

But it's not like EB Games to sell a new release game for $20 less without a special offer. Dick Smith were also charging "full price" for it. Does anyone know what the correct SRP for the Galactic Edition is?

EDIT: Okay, it's actually SRP of $139.95. I'll edit the article.

I got my galactic edition for $95 at EB thanks to $10 off for pre-order and further $15 off thanks to the creature creator icon_smile.gif

BTW I don't think the Australian galactic edition gets the How to "Make a Better Being DVD" as it wasn't in my set and there's no room for it or any indication anywhere that it should have been in it.

Edit: Actually it looks like Game are advertising that it does have it, maybe the EB galactic edition is different, which would also explain the $20 difference. If so then that sucks, I really wanted that DVD icon_sad.gif

Is there a digital download option somewhere?

I believe EA have some kind of digital distribution for spore, but past experiences with EA products tells me it'd probably be even worse than the disc version icon_sad.gif.

(I have 5 EA accounts all tied to the 1 email and none are picked up by that stupid download manager)
