Fallout 3 level cap gets a boost

PC News | Keep on grinding.
Bethesda has revealed that future DLC will allow the level cap to be raised in their acclaimed post-apocalyptic role-playing title Fallout 3.

The news comes from the game's Lead Producer, Jeff Gardiner, who spilled the beans in an interview with Eurogamer, stating the game's current level cap of 20 will be increased to 30 in the upcoming Broken Steel content pack.

In addition to raising the level cap, Broken Steel will also remove the game's ending, meaning that once the credits have rolled on the completion of the original story, players will be able to continue their adventure around the wasteland in order to grind away to building a level 30 character.

Before Broken Steel arrives in March, gamers will get their hands on another two packs of DLC. The first one titled Operation: Anchorage is due out later in the month, giving players the opportunity to the liberate Alaska from Chinese forces. The second pack of DLC, The Pitt will be available for download in February, giving players the chance to explore the remains of the city of Pittsburgh.

Due to an exclusivity deal struck up between Microsoft and Bethesda, the DLC will only be offered for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game. Operation: Anchorage will set gamers back 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

I hope that the new content will actually make the game harder. Being level 20 generally means you have finished the storyline and have awesome weapons and armor. It makes Deathclaws seem like little kitties. So I can't see the point of allowing level 30 if all it's going to do is let you steamroll everything.

But I can't wait for the new content, will be awesome.

They have multiple difficulties in game, however I agree after level 10 or so the game becomes a lot easier.

I agree, although you can change the difficulty, it shouldn't matter. Oh, and what's going to happen at level 30? All our stats will definitely be at 100, which will make the game even easier.

Sweet, I can't wait for the DLC. Any reason to get back into the realm of fallout 3.

I am glad I traded in my PS3 version for the PC one.

I hit level 20 maybe half way through my playthrough. I was kicking myself for wasting perks on +skillpoints, considering the MOUNTAINS of skill books you find...

So the DLC will cost on the PC since it uses Games For Windows Live huh.. and Bethesda bothered to charge for Oblivion PC DLC :(

Ah well. I haven't even installed my copy yet anyway.

I'm finding it hard to play now that I've hit Level 20. I've only just reached Vault 87, and it seems like a waste to do all those quests when the EXP will mean nothing for my character.

Broken Steel is only the third DLC, though, isn't it? Anchorage and The Pitt come out before it, which means it's months and months away.

Broken Steel is out in March (as stated in the article) which means its two months away. Its not that far away.

But its a little worrying that there is no set date for Anchorage yet and we are already in the middle third of January...

This would explain why I never levelled up further then 20. At the end of the day though, when you forget to load up on ammo and decent weapons (other then a pistol) and wander off into the wasteland and you happen across a Deathclaw and all you have is a pistol then you still wet yourself...
