Left 4 Dead content coming

PC News | Introducing Survival mode.
Valve has announced new downloadable content, dubbed the Survival Pack, for their latest title Left 4 Dead available for both the PC and Xbox 360.

Due to release this Spring in the US, the DLC introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled 'Survival', plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode, which no doubt will be retooled versions of the current unplayable ones for Versus - Death Toll and Dead Air.

In addition, the first Left 4 Dead release for the Source Software Development Kit (Source SDK) will be made available for free alongside the new content; allowing the creation of custom Left 4 Dead campaigns that will be discoverable via L4D's matchmaking system.

Finally, a Critic's Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.

No price has been mentioned for the new pack, but it's a relatively safe bet that it will be released for free for the PC. The Xbox 360 on the other hand, is anyone's guess for now.

This spring in the US? I'm guessing you mean their spring not ours? (As in March-May)

Man I **** knew this game would be a ripoff! I basically paid $80 bucks for a game that came with less content than the original shareware version of Doom.

I've complained of the lack of maps, enemies, weapons and just overall variety in this game and this 'updated content' doesn't do anything to remedy that. Infact the 2 maps we're getting for Versus modes should've been included from the launch of the game, it's just evidence they rushed it out the door to get extra sales. No seriously, this is the same as using a shotty on the one of the stages and then not having the option to use it on another just cuz the devs haven't gotten around to programming that in yet. They were too busy with marketing (stupid posters like intros and just dumbass writing on the wall....wow, what an in-depth creative way of telling a story that doesn't **** exist!) making sure the game with it's **** all content was ready to be sold.

Man **** this, i'm gonna go return this **** along with Red Alert 3.

Whoah, ugh, where did that come from?
Have you actually played through the single player campaign at its varying difficulty levels?

There is a tonne of content there, even more so if you've managed to find a few friends to play through advanced and expert mode with (where the game really shines). The multiplayer/coop component is phenomenal.

And versus mode is fantastic, there is so much strategy and teamwork necessary to complete your respective objectives that you only really see it all coming together every so often, when the team is communicating. I didn't even notice one bit of repetitiveness in Versus mode, because each game is a completely fresh experience.

The weapons argument is just stupid too. Why on earth would we need any more weapons? What purpose would an additional assault rifle, or a different type of handgun serve? Absolutely nothing, and would only create more overhead for people to get used to.

This is not counter strike, it's more about the teamwork than it is what gun you're using.

How do you quantify that?

Doom Ep 1 had 9 maps. L4D has 4 campaigns, each spread over 5 maps - that's 20 total.

Doom had 8 weapons. L4D also has 8 (including thrown weapons).

The only slight numerical advantage I can think of is Doom had a 10 enemy types (not all of which appeared in the shareware). L4D has around 6 (4 playable special infected + witch + basic zombie).

I take it you purchased the 360 version and are unhappy about paying for 'DLC'. Unfortunately MS seems to have taken a hard stance against free extra content and I'd suggest getting the Steam version if possible.
