New large update on the way for Unreal Tournament III

PC News | Titan Pack coming March 5 for free on both PC and PS3 platforms.
Gamespy affiliate website Planet Unreal has reported news on the first new content release pack for Unreal Tournament III, available from March 5 2009, making its way for both PC and PS3 versions.

Dubbed the Titan Pack, the free downloadable expansion-patch will not only add new content and game modes, but a massive list of improvements and tweaks, most notably a new graphic interface for menus and server joining, an issue many fans believed was too cluttered and slow from previous titles.

The new content includes 16 new maps spread across the existing game modes, new weapons and gametypes, as well as added Steam achievements and PSN trophies. The PS3 also finally gains split-screen gameplay, something which the Xbox 360 version contained upon release.

The full contents of the pack includes:

• 16 environments – four Warfare, three vCTF, six Deathmatch, and three CTF maps – that are new to the PC and PS3 versions.
• Three bonus pack maps, CTF-Face, CTF-Searchlight and DM-Morbias.
• The namesake Titan mutator, which lets players overwhelm opponents as a 15 foot tall titan, or crush them as a 30 foot tall Behemoth.
• Greed and Betrayal, two game types that breed new-found fervor throughout the competitive UT3 arena.
• Two powerful weapons, the Stinger Turret and Eradicator Cannon artillery.
• Two valuable deployables, the X-Ray Field and Link Station.
• The Slow Field power-up, a portable version of the Slow Field deployable.
• Stealthbender, a new vehicle that carries two spidermine trap deployables, one EMP mine, and one each of the new Link Station and X-Ray Field deployables.
• Two new characters, Nova and Kana.
• 57 awards attainable as Steam Achievements and PS3 Trophies.
• Broad improvements for PC and PS3: Significant AI enhancements, especially in vehicle gametypes; networking performance upgrades; greatly improved menu flow and UI usability; better mod support.
• Client-side demo recording, highly improved Server Browser, a new map list system, plus mid-game mutator and game type voting functionality for PC.
• High demand PS3 features including PS3 Trophy support, two-player split-screen support, and mod browsing.

Ahh this sux I just got rid of UT3 on PS3 because I was told it was only coming out for PC. Ill have to see if I can find another copy in a bargain bin somewhere...

I find it funny that the PC is 'free' when all updates usually are, console users should have the same benefit, damn money grubbers that they are.

I was thinking of trading this in the next trade deal that came along ...

This is great how more dev are coming on with free DLC to support their products, its the way it should be none, of this money grabbing BS that's been happening.

If these devs want to penny pinch and charge for everything, then they should release their game for free (or cheaper at least) and then let the gamer customise it with their paid add-ons.

I was disappointed with Bioshock PS3 when it came out at full retail and then they wanted to charge for the DLC :(

Burnout paradise and UT3 should be supported by all ps3 owners, support the devs who support their gamers!!! :)

If your a pc owner, support UT3 and all valve games icon_smile.gif

Not really sure why you think 'free DLC' is a new thing. PC devs have been doing it for years, usually leading up to a large paid (and worthwhile) expansion. 'Paid DLC' is a new thing with the latest generation of consoles that support microtransactions.

Maybe it's time to break out UT3 again, I got too annoyed with the network errors it kept giving me in single player mode =P

This update might just be the thing to push me into buying it. I was always interested in it back in '07, but the one thing that put me off was the lack of split-screen. Depending on how much the game goes for now on PS3, I may eventually pick it up.

I might consider finding this for PS3 now if it's cheap enough.

Well, apparently the patch will be 800MB to 1GB, so I'm no longer interested. It'd be fine if you could background download patches on the PS3, but considering you have to leave the PS3 on at the update screen for the entire process, I really can't be bothered.

EDIT: Actually, what's the chance they'd released the titan pack on the PS Store (free of charge, of course), so that you can download it at your own pace?
