The Weekend Steam - 30/05/09

PC News | Unreal racing and 50% off sales.
This week, Steam’s weekend deal is on The Bone-Breaking Racing Package, which is on sale for USD $4.50 (approx. AUD $5.62 / GBP £3.45), a saving of 85%. Also on sale are Unreal Tournament III Black and Unreal Deal Pack which have been reduced by 50% to give them a price tag of USD $9.99 (approx. AUD $12.48 / GBP £6.99) and USD $19.99 (approx. AUD $24.96 / GBP £11.49) respectively until 7 June.

The Bone-Breaking Racing Package includes two racing titles from Miniclip.com, which are Monster Trucks Nitro and Trials 2: Second Edition. If you were to purchase the pack when it wasn’t on sale, the pack would set you back USD $25, so it’s a considerable saving if you want a couple of cheap racers to tie you over before E3 next week. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

Unreal Tournament III Black is essentially the full retail version of Unreal Tournament III bundled with the newly released Titan expansion pack. The Titan Pack includes 11 new multiplayer maps for Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Vehicle CTF and Wafare modes, as well as two new gameplay modes in the form of Greed and Betrayal. As an extra bonus, if you feel like trying out the full version of the game, Steam is running a promotion where you can play it for FREE throughout this weekend. Sounds like the perfect cure for those lazy Sundays. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

The Unreal Deal Pack features five games from publishers Midway and Epic Games. These include Unreal Gold and Unreal 2: The Awakening, Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition, Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Tournament III: Black. Considering it costs half the asking price just to purchase UT3 alone, it’s a tremendous saving that would even appease PALGN’s local FPS fanatic… even though chances are he already owns all these games. You can be taken to the download page by clicking here.

Other notable sales this week include:

I can't seem to add the Freedom Force pack to my shopping cart...? I remember loving the demo years ago, but for some reason never bought it. And now I want to, and I can't! Gah...

Edit: it finally let me buy it, phew. I had to log into "your account" and then searched for it then and it let me buy it. Surely logging into the Steam client should log you into the store as well? It always has before... oh well, whatever. Time to beat up badguys!

If only I didnt have a billion other things to pay off this week (insurance, phone bills and buying a replacement panel for the car), I would sooo be all over the unreal pack. And just out of interest, with the 50% mumbojumbo games, I noticed the office is one of the games that this applies to. What I want to know is, (stupid question) but does it have steve carrell in it? or rather.. any "thats what she said" jokes in it?

Also, Luxor 2 is US$0.99 - good time waster!

The other casual games from the same publisher also seem to be discounted to around US$4.99 too.

Very tempted in Assassin's Creed.

But, how does it fare with keyboard controls?

Freedom force is excellent value. (Think marvel ultimate alliance but silver age) - impulse also has the old dos game "corporate machine" for 99 cents. Its a good tycoonish game and fun in multiplayer.
