EA planning to reboot Medal of Honor franchise

PC News | More modern combat on the way.
Taking the lead from rival developer Infinity Ward, Electronic Arts have announced plans to reboot the Medal of Honor franchise, with the upcoming title to shift its focus away from the beloved franchise's World War II roots and move onto modern world conflicts.

The series reboot will go by the title Medal of Honor and will be co-developed by EA Los Angeles and DICE - with EA LA looking after the single-player aspect of the title and DICE focusing on the multiplayer aspect of the game. This time around the conflict will move away from Europe and into the Middle East, with the game taking its own spin on the last decade of fighting in Afghanistan.

EA reports that many moments of the game are inspired by real life events, even going as far as stating that that have made direct contact with the US Special Operations Community in the development of the title. Medal of Honor will see players assume the role of the Tier 1 Operator who will take on the missions that "no one else can handle".

The game will be available on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 when it is released in 2010, thought at this time an exact release date has yet to be revealed.

Kinda getting sick of modern combats right about now actually...

There are alot of stories to tell in the World War 2 era, but I prefer a modern setting over a WWII one mainly due to the weapons having greater accuracy. A conflict centred around our world as we know it now also keeps my interest levels up. This has been the case ever since Battlefield 2 which wasn't perfect, but I had put quite a fair bit of time into.

I suppose companies are looking at the sort of splash resulting from Modern Warfare's popularity and are naturally wanting a slice of the share.

If MoH offers something new and enjoyable, then all the power to them I say. I agree that a modern war setting; like anything, has just as much potential to get stale if it gets milked to death though.

I've got the feeling that the modern era is going to be heavily milked from this point onward.

Has the Korean War been done yet? Or the Falklands even?
I'd be interested in some wars that haven't been touched on yet.
