The Weekend Steam - 23/1/10

PC News | Company of bargains.
The Weekend Steam Deal heads back to the trenches this week with gamers able to purchase titles from the solid WWII RTS franchise Company of Heroes at 75% off. For those purchasing the Complete Pack containing Company of Heroes plus its two stand-alone expansions Opposing Fronts and Tales of Valor, you'll be able to pick up all three titles for USD $13.74 / AUD $15.25 / GBP £7.49. As well as being able to pick up the games at a heavily discounted price, gamers will also be able to download the entire Company of Heroes soundtrack for free.

Company of Heroes brought the visceral battles of World War II into the real-time strategy realm, letting players experience the intensity and grisly nature of war from both sides of the trenches. While the last add-on Tales of Valor didn't quite live up to the high quality of the original Company of Heroes, we quite enjoyed both titles. You can read our thoughts on both games by clicking the links above.

All specials available this week:
Company of Heroes Complete Pack: USD $13.74 / AUD $15.25 / GBP £7.49
Company of Heroes: USD $3.74 / AUD $4.15 / GBP £2.49

Just bought it off steam - but it looks like its 9gigs of space GRRRR... thats a lot to download...

anyone know if Steam works well off a USB hard drive and how to set it up?
From what I heard, it only runs off the drive steam is installed in.

However, you can make a backup of the games (not too sure if the saves get backed up too) and save that backup on the USB.

yeah maybe i can run steam off the USB drive then?

Not really a bargain, but you can pre purchase battlefield bad company 2 limited edition on steam for $49.99 atm. Works out to be about $56. Not to mention you'll get into the beta that goes from the 24th into late february. The game unlocks on the 3rd March.

^Yup, definitely beats the store price which is nearly double that.

I totally recommend Aliens versus Predator Classic. I was a big fan of it since the original demos back in 1999 and it's still one hell of a ride.

Rebellion have even patched it to address many issues, even going as far as implementing HUD scaling to suite today's resolutions. I own both retail versions (original and Gold Edition) and it's a breath of fresh air to be able to run the game perfectly without having to patch the crap out of it.

In a few weeks, Rebellion will also be releasing a patch that allows server based MP. They're really bending over backwards here and at only $5.55AUD, this game has received better support than most!

Rebellion's AvP was my first foray into FPS and is probably one of the most personally influential games ever for me and I simply can't wait to get my hands on the upcoming version. I can say without a doubt that it will be my sole reason for getting my first ever Gold subscription to Live.

Viva AvP!

I wonder if the CoH games off Steam are still buggy pieces of crap. I couldn't even get Tales of Valor to work until I downloaded a crack for it, because when you start the game, half the time it tells you your account has been locked and you need to contact support before you even create the damned account! Worst release ever...

Company of heroes a great series, I recommend everyone buy it if they can for that cheap price.

And I'm keen on buying that BF2 collectors edition, especially since its half price to that of aussie retail =/. In fact, I'm going to get it right noow, pre-download for some beta gaming. icon_smile.gif

^ icon_neutral.gif I'm going to wait it out just in case they pull a last minute 4 pack out of nowehre..

..hoping they dont pull a cod mw2 and suddenly jack up the price to 89 USD.

I don't think a 4 pack would be less than $150, so you'd only be saving $15. Compared to the $45 saved by using Steam instead of retail, that's no drama to miss if you don't already know 3 other people to split with.

Wasn't there a 4 pack that include both Bioshock 1 and 2?
