Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 go head-to-head

PC News | In an effort to wash away your ol' map blues.
While earlier in the week Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward announced that they intend to cure gamers of 'mapathy' with some fresh premium DLC on 30 March, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE has annouced that it will too strategically release new DLC for its shooter on the same day - minus the price tag.

Taking a swipe at Infinity Ward's plans, DICE has revealed that VIP Map Pack 2 will grant players the opportunity to play Arica Harbor in Conquest Mode and Laguna Presa in Rush Mode as a free unlock - providing that you have purchased a new copy of the game.

"We're dedicated to taking care of this product for a long time - helping you avoid 'mapathy' without getting nickel-and-dimed," stated DICE, who further explained:

"[Fresh content] also plays a vital part in making sure you, the players get proper value for the money you've invested in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. This is why these map packs are available at no extra cost, contradicting the industry standard and what our direct competitors are doing. Of course, it also helps avoid segmenting the community, making sure everyone can play together having the same maps available. There will be future paid downloadable content as well but these packs will focus on expanding other parts of the game experience rather than the selection of maps available for the basic game modes."

Not much is known about the price or scope of the first Modern Warfare 2 map pack, though rumors suggest that the maps included could be ones that players are already familiar with from previous iterations of the Call of Duty series. For now we'll just have to sit tight, but we do expect Infinity Ward to release more details as the release date edges closer.

Modern Warfare 2's first DLC will drop on the 30 March on the Xbox 360 - with PC and PlayStation 3 downloads set to follow shortly thereafter. Bad Company 2's fresh content on the other hand is set to deploy across all platforms on the same day.

If DICE and EA pulled their act together, and the servers stopped going down things would be GREAT !

Thinking of getting Bad Company 2 and replacing it with my CODMW2 play. For those that have it is there a stroing enough community, with dedicated Aussie servers to make it work? Note i am talking about the PS3 version.

Yuh, Mikes is right. Alot of people have gone from COD to this game and its pretty popular. I've had no trouble finding games and if you have a few friends playing this, then Squad matches are awesome.

Kept in mind that I'm a huge COD fan, but seriously this game craps allover MW2. It just feel's so much more epic online and has a real team feel to it.

Just love the competition between rival developers, that's what drives innovation.
Now I am eagerly waiting to see what the new MOH has to offer.
