Lord of the Rings: War in the North announced

PC Media | One more battle to rule them all.
Recently revealed in a Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment press release, it looks like the Lord of the Rings license will be coming out for another round with the announcement of Lord of the Rings: War in the North, an action/RPG title which will expand on the Lord of the Rings canon.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North will let players become heroes by taking part in the epic War of the Ring. Players will be able to explore areas familiar to those of the feature films as well as getting the opportunity to interact with familiar characters from Middle-earth. The game will also feature extensive character customisation ,co-operative gameplay options, as well as the ability to upgrade weapons, skills and special abilities.

The title is currently in development for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Lord of the Rings: War in the North is scheduled for release in 2011. You can check out the debut trailer of the title below.

Loved the second and third game, I played the third one so much, like each level 5-10 times, hopefully this game is as good.

That doesn't make sense. How can we visit places we know and see characters we know when the game is called the War in the North. The majority of Lord of the Rings is set in the South. Unless its about the Dunedain or the wood elves in the Mirkwood but those aren't recognizable characters and places.

The Battle For Middle earth II took place in the Northern theatre of the War. It also included characters from the Lord of the Rings. I suppose they are being a bit unspecific with this statement.

Basically it's because developers are being far too liberal these days with the source material.
