The Weekend Steam - 21/8/2010

PC News | Stalking a magnificent bargain.
In light of this week's S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 announcement, this Weekend Steam gives players the opportunity to experience both S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, the first title in the series, and its sequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat. Both games can be purchased together for 75% off Steam's usual price. Note that you need to buy them together to get that bargain price

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series is comprised of critically acclaimed, horror FPS titles renowned for their realism and high difficulty. We at PALGN think it's definitely worth giving Shadow of Chernobyl a shot, and you can read our full review here.

Strange how they are just randomly leaving out clear sky.

I already own the original so I would have preferred Clear Sky in the pack instead, either way $10 for Pripyat is awesome, looking forward to the Complete mod for it.

Been wanting to buy STALKER for a while. I almost pulled the trigger on a import copy today. Thank you steam for keeping me lazy.

I almost bought this on the weekend but I wasn't sure if I needed the original or not (as in whether these were DLC/expansions). It was not clear, from the title of the game, as to whether this was the original game plus an expansion or not... anyway.. unless the sale is still on, due to timezone differences, when I get home tonight.. I guess I will have missed out.. d'oh!

Ok.. sale ends 23rd August 11am PDT (Pacific Daylight-Savings Time in US).. so still available for another few hours. Grabbed it.. so basically it's $8.74 for both, which is roughly $10AUD.. though be warned, it is an 11gb download (5.7gb for Chernobyl and 5.3gb for Pipyat).

Had only a small play of this last night and I am so far reasonably impressed but definitely happy with the game. It's not at all what I was expecting, which is good because I was hoping it wasn't another Resident Evil but had an idea that it might be.

My main concern with the game is its lack of gameplay instruction.. it's not that its hard to work out or anything but there are things that I wish would have been made clearer right from the start.. though, that element of exploration in a strange new world is also fun in itself, so definitely not a huge negative. For example, it took me a while to realise that everyone in the game had a "TRADE" button in their dialog window.. it's obvious to me now but for a while there I was running around looking for a shop..
