S.T.A.L.K.E.R. delayed

PC News | Yet again.
THQ released their latest earnings report last week, and while we reported on the console side of things, we neglected to mention a small tidbit concerning their much awaited first person shooter, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Yes, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. yet again. This time, the game is now set for a Q4 2006 release, though speculation suggests that the game may not come out until Q1 2007. Now six years since its original showing, rampant speculation suggests that there are significant quality problems within the title that have resulted in consistent delays. PALGN sincerely hopes that nobody upgraded their PC in anticipation for this title.

First shown in 2001, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a free roaming first person shooter set in the not too distant future. Players have free roam over a to-scale section of the ruined Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine, which was the site of the infamous nuclear meltdown in 1986. The aim of the game: retrieve swag, and kill any other stalkers and other beasties that get in your way. PALGN will have more news on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as it breaks.

so, which do you think will be out first, STALKER, or Duke Nukem Fornever?

i like the phrase: "set in the not-too-distant-future" in reference to this title. it's fast becoming "set in the past".

Wow, I thought it might have been pushed back a couple of months but a whole year? At least? That's so... sad. I thought that judging by the more recent trailers of the game that they were one the home strech. Once again the trailers lied. I suppose it is a pretty ambitious title, but so is Oblivion and that's got an end of year release date. I guess it's down to how well a developer can manage the time that's given to them. I'll still be looking forwards to this.

Don't forget about Team Fortress 2.

^ isn't that on the verge of release now?

Quake Wars it's now called.

well, i suppose in the meantime there was Team Fortress Classic for Half-Life and Enemy Territory: Team Fortress for RTCW/ET.

no, Team Fortress was initially a id Software product.

first based on the Quake 1 engine and then converted to the Q2 engine through Half-Life 1 (which was built on the Q2 engine itself).

actually, what i was thinking of was Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. i thought it was called Quake Wars: Team Fortress, turns out i was wrong. i don't know where the next (technically the 4th) TF will be from then.

ET: QW is made by Splash Damage, based on the Doom 3 engine.

I can understand delays for say something like Zelda, because the developers want the extra time to make it the best it can be or whatever. I can't understand why games like these need to be delayed though, especially when they are coming along nicely. Do the developers take 50 days off in between their shifts or something?
