Blizzard confirms new PvP content for World of Warcraft

PC News | Cross-realm battlegrounds just one of the new features.
Gamers craving for a bit more PvP action in World of Warcraft won’t have to wait much longer, with Blizzard today announcing the introduction of a new cross-realm battlegrounds and World PvP features that’ll be implemented in the game’s next patch.

The World PvP feature will be restricted to two zones, Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands, where gamers can compete against other players in achieving non-instanced objectives that’ll improve their reputation with zone-wide factions to acquire honour points and faction benefits.

In Silithus, your objective involves collecting a spice from various geysers that have sprung up throughout the zone. Each time a player successfully returns the spice to their faction’s base you’ll receive a stat-boosting buff. Eventually, once collecting enough spices, all players from your faction in the zone or in either the Ahn’Qiraj dungeons will receive a beneficial buff. Meanwhile, in the Eastern Plaguelands, players will race to control, and defend, several towers that are marked within the zone. Once all four towers are controlled, the faction who possesses them will gain zone-wide benefits, including a buff that’ll increase players damage against undead creatures, as well as a faster flight-path across the zone.

Also included in the upcoming patch will be the introduction of cross-realm Battlegrounds. Players will be able to compete against other players from other realms in all three of the current instanced battlegrounds: Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, and Alterac Valley.

Further details have yet to be announced on either of the two new features. In the meantime, however, be sure to checkout the four new screenshots in the Media Panel.

You forgot the rogue Talent Tree update. =P

This is a few days old, suprisingly. The Silithus and EPL news is new, however the Cross-Realm has been announced pretty much since 1.11 is out.

Nevertheless, I'm still realy looking forward to it! Thanks for the reminder. xD Mmm..Girlfriends 60 priest is gonna get smooshed, much laughing for me. ^_^

while i welcome anything that restores world PVP over instanced battlegrounds (which i hate), these seem way more geared towards PVP on PVE servers.

the Silithus "event" gets you gathering a spice, that flags you as PVP-enabled while you carry it. cool, except on a PVP server, you're permanently PVP-flagged in Silithus anyway.

the Tower defence events sounds pretty cool actually, and restores some of the sieging that was so popular in Beta.

i'd still like to see more involvement of the capitals though, there was a rumour that there was going to be a caravan defence event between Orgrimmar/Thunderbluff or Ironforge/Stormwind, which seems to have either been pure fiction, or delayed/not unveiled.

now, if only they'll drop/change the DK system.

Good call, Blizzard. Let's hope this works as intended! There's been some great improvements over the past few patches that have definitely made the game more enjoyable (from my perspective). Hell, I even got excited about the keyring addition.

Being on a server with a six-seven hour AV queue, I say BRING IT ON! I play on PVE and appreciate those world PVP moments but wouldn't want to live there. This EPL/Sil thing suits me just fine.

icon_lol.gif Well, I didn't mind the new addition either. It certainly saved me from going back and forth to the bank every time I wanted to do Scholo.

Blizzard has promised a lot of content that still isn't in the final game, although I'm still satisfied that they continually try to improve it - I suppose that's the difference compared to other MMORPG games.

Would help with PUG (physically unorganised group) AB and WSG.

The problem on my server Dunemaul is that Alliance teams are quite crafty and play AB/WSG with organised groups.

Rarely can you get an organised group on Horde side.

Hopefully the match ups will offer PUG players better chances at winning.

I played 10 WSG sessions on Saturday for a total of 1 win and 9 losses = total 135 reputation points for one hour of PvP. The main reason is that we hit orgnaised teams (three times the Horde PUG team was pitted against the same Alliance team).

from what i've heard, only organised teams get into cross-realm BGs anyway, if you join as a solo player, you stay on your own server.

and if this is true, then unless there's a MAJOR overhaul of the whole honour system, then i don't see organised teams queuing for cross-realm battles, when they can solo-queue and continue to trounce PUGs.

rank is based on quick wins, not skills.

Good, I hate waiting for hours to get into PVP Instanced battlegrounds.
