DEFCON scheduled for September release in Europe

PC News | Unique strategy game from acclaimed independent developer.
Strategy games often deliver an abstract take on traditional gameplay. From the critically acclaimed Advance Wars titles to the hugely popular Starcraft, there is no one method for crafting titles in the genre. UK indie developer Introversion, best known for cult classic Darwinia, have taken this notion to heart to deliver DEFCON, a global strategy game based on thermonuclear war.

Players will command forces as a General hidden deep in an underground bunker. DEFCON aims to portray the atmosphere reminiscent of the Cold War, with missions to eliminate enemy civilian populations while defending against attacks and disabling subsequent enemy advances. All the action goes down on a giant world map, stylised to represent a futuristic command centre. The game will feature online multiplayer battles, so a worldwide virtual war is exactly what will be delivered.

"DEFCON is proof once again that the creation of exciting, unique games does not rely on years and years of development, nor a 100 strong dev team. With the release of DEFCON, Introversion continues to demonstrate that indie developers are at the forefront of exciting, innovative gaming experiences," comments Introversion representative Tom Arundel.

Innovation is certainly welcome with fans of the strategy genre. DEFCON is scheduled for release in Europe in September, and we'll keep you informed of the Australian launch dates. In the meantime, check out the terribly stylish screenshots in the Media Panel.

Looks intriguing, now you too can nuke North Korea whilst enjoying pizza. Wonder if something similar is in use as a training aid anywhere around the place?

Looks like a good game, tho i have to wonder how you can possibly win. By the time you would have finished eating your pizza , all the missiles shown on that map would have owned anything
