SimCity Societies announced

PC News | Will you rule or be ruled?
EA has officially confirmed via a press release that SimCity: Societies is coming to the PC and should be available by the end of the year.

The game will allow players to construct their own cities yet again, but also create "cultures societal behaviours and environments." Players start by choosing from more than 350 building types which can be arranged freely. As the city evolves players will unlock new buildings which will either help or hinder your society.

“SimCity Societies allows players to create a variety of cities with the unique societies they desire,” said Vice President and Studio Head of The Sims Division, Rod Humble. “There is such a variety of cities to build from in SimCity Societies – and they’re all such a blast to play. Sometimes I build an aggressive police state where stragglers are dragged off to re-conditioning centers and emerge ready for work. Other times, I build a green community in the tropics, where the citizens grow their own food and have a small environmental footprint. With so many options to choose from, SimCity Societies is the most flexible city building game ever!”

The first images of the game can be found in our media panel.

Are the SimCity games being made by the same people as The Sims now?

I hope he is just a random mouth they chose to "quote" for the press release and deveopment is not being handled by his team.

I don't dislike the man personaly, as I have never heard of him before, however I do dislike the manner in which his games have so far been distributed.

Err, I haven't played it but from what I've read that description seems identical to "City Life".
Oh well as long as this is more fun than SimCity4.

Sounds fun, almost as if its incorporating elements of Civilization into Sim City. Though I won't be interested unless the difficulty is easier or the game comes with a useful tutorial; I've always sucked at Sim City.
