Need For Speed Underground 2 Announced

PS2 News | Includes the first screenshot.
Electronic Arts today announced the development of Need For Speed Underground 2. Since its release in November 2003 the original Need For Speed Underground has sold 5 million copies worldwide. The announcement of the sequel comes as no surprise.

Need For Speed Underground 2 will feature a fully immersive free-roaming city divided into five distinct neighbourhoods. Gamers will encounter rival racers who will initiate events, inform players of the hottest racing spots and show them where to buy aftermarket upgrades.

Need For Speed Underground 2 will feature new game modes, more customisation options and 30 licensed cars. Twice the amount of visual customisation upgrades will be possible providing 70 billion possible car customisations. (Not enough for you?)

Need For Speed Underground 2 is currently in development and is scheduled for a Quarter 4 release 2004, for the Playstation 2, XBox, Gamecube, PC and Game Boy Advance.

Brilliant news as far as I'm concerned, as I loved the first game.
This time I won't be playing through it 5 times so quickly, Civ will know why. icon_wink.gif

But with my excitement for the game, comes a little sigh, as knowing my luck, I'll have to defend this title a lot too. icon_neutral.gif

I just hope to God "free-roaming city" means some sort of random cruise this time...

Yeah, I can't wait for this one, I'll definately be setting some money aside. But wasn't it here where someone said NFS:U2 might be Burnout 3: NFS? icon_confused.gif

i kinda hope they mix in elements of the Midnight Club games, but better...

yeah the free roaming cruise would be awesome, as would cops...

i don't think burnout 3 would be nfsu2, since they have both been announced in development independantly...

There was rumour that the next NFS game would be Burnout 3, only because of EA publishing Bo3. Criterion Games have actually announced it's not going to happen though, and well now we have proof of what is the next installment to the NFS series. icon_smile.gif

Well I didn't see this coming! [/sarcasm]

5 million copies worlwide? Sweet! Can't wait! icon_biggrin.gif

Does anyone else find it ironic that NFSU2 is going to developed for the Cube, yet BO3 is not? WTF is going there?

Burnout 2 wasn't announced for the Cube until 6 months after the orginal PS2 announcement, it's certainly a possibility that it will be released on Cube from Criteron's track record.

I certainly hope that Burnout 3 does come to the GCN, only because I'm used of the GCN controller, for the Burnout series.

If not, lucky I have a Ps2 then. icon_wink.gif

And well, NFSU2 sounds awesome too, but if they're released pretty close to each other, I know which game will get my attention more. (Bo3)

Then there's Juiced and GT4 and the list goes on.....

There was too much limitation in the first Underground, hopefully they'll fix that up this time through.

Good news never the less.

True, but did Criterion/Acclaim flat out say there would never be a Cube version? If I remember corretly, they said there was an exclusivety deal with Sony for Burnout 2. I could be wrong though. icon_wink.gif

given you lot liked Burnout 2 so much, maybe i'll have to give it a go, i avoided it because i hated the first one...

The first Nfs:underground was totally at night. Can't you make at least some races at daytime?

This thread's a little old, so check out the newer one. icon_smile.gif
And to answer your question, there will be some dawn/dusk races this time around. Due to illegal street racing taking place at night, that's the reason most of the game plays at night too. icon_wink.gif
