PS2 Resident Evil 4 to come with widescreen mode

PS2 News | To the chagrin of Cube owners everywhere.
'Chagrin'. There's a word we bet you never envisaged in a PALGN blurb eh? Anyway, U.S games site IGN is reporting that the PlayStation 2 version of Resident Evil 4 will feature a 16:9 widescreen mode, unlike the GameCube original, which came with only a 4:3 display, and black borders as a result (unless you used the option to 'zoom in' on your widescreen telly, though this lowered the overall quality).

The PS2 version, which is due for a PAL release on November 4th, will also come with progressive scan support (something the Cube original did already have) and - get this - a new weapon. The 'PRL 412' (Parasite Removal Laser) will apparently be rather nifty at removing the wholly irritating Plaga, though apparently it'll be yet another hidden feature in a game already packed to the gills with hidden features.

More as we get it, folks.
