Splinter Cell Improving On PS2!

PS2 News | Ubi Soft have added many new features to the PS2 version of Splinter Cell, and are looking to maximise the full potential of the system.
Ubi Soft, in their transition of Splinter Cell from Xbox to PS2, have added many new useful features to the PS2 version in its development stage. Here are some planned improvements:

- New gadgets, levels and cinematics have been added to the PS2 version.

- The PS2 version now not only boasts the recreated shadow and lighting system but also reflective surfaces, hazy heat, waves at sea and advanced blurring techniques.

- Recreated sound from the Xbox version as well as the conversion of the sound and voices into Dolby Pro Logic II for many more realistic effects to really create the effect of stealth espionage.

Ubi Soft claims that they have been maximizing the real capabilities of the system in the game's development stage by the addition of advanced visual and audio techniques.

Ubi Soft said these things specifically for the PS2, no GCN info as of yet.

So I guess you haven't seen the screens then? At least I think the ones IGN showed were the GCN ones. Well they might not have been.

No, no GCN screens have been released, but according to Matt on IGN,

First screens should be released in the not too distant future so stay tuned. You're not going to be disappointed.

Finally, the graphics on the GCN incarnation are supposedly rocking -- much more so than the PS2 one.
Sounds good to me. icon_biggrin.gif

Well I've been unfortunate enough to play the PS2 demo of this and it sucks. It gets very jerky during the restaurant bit at the beginning and the level of detail has obviously been cut back from the Xbox version. The lighting is nothing special. Metal Gear Solid 2 looks so much better than this in terms of lighting and detail. Probably plays the same but the GCN version is bound to be superior. Makes me want to sell my PS2 and get a 'cube.

I played the PS2 demo today, and damn was it bad. Not gameplay wise, or graphics wise(I thought it looked ok), but framerate wise. Ugh!
The game was so jerky it made aiming a bit hard! And when shooting glass, it made the framerate drop even more!
The game doesn't have outstanding graphics, so I don't know where this problem comes from....
And I thought UbiSoft said the game was "redefined" for the PS2. icon_confused.gif

I can back mrcivic up on that one, I got the demo last week and can safely say that it has nothing on the XBOX version.

ARRRRGH... That is disgusting...

Apparently the GC version is better than the Xbox version in some respects (textures, jaggies and framerate) but the Xbox version's lighting reigns supreme, and to me the lighting was one of the main draws of Splinter Cell, so I'll probably stick to the Xbox version.

Has anyone seen IGN insider videos?

GCN version in motion of SC looking extremely good. (IGN Insider movies) While minus some of the lighting effects (they don't seem as bright or as plentiful) graphically it appears to be the X-Box's equal. Although with a few minor enhancements, the framerate seems improved as does the aliasing, the interrogation room is now a reflecting room, the keypad sequence is also better looking, & Sam has hair strands. IGN reports that the control is also much more intuitive than the X-Box's, they will explain more in detail later. Check out the films if you're an Insider & tell me what you think.
Interesting.

OOH, better framerate and aliasing, hair strands and more intuitive controls - sounds good to me. icon_biggrin.gif
