AFL Premiership 2006 announced

PS2 News | Who'd have guessed?
Sony has announced today that it's entered into a two-year agreement with the AFL to publish AFL Premiership 2006 for the PlayStation 2. The game is currently set for release in Australia this coming July.

There wasn't much more revealed about the game, except that the agreement extends to all Sony properties, so a PSP version of the game could be released in time for the 2007 season. The new game will have the usual enhanced graphics, updated rosters and all-new features. No images of the game have been released, but we'll post them up as soon as they become available. We'll have more information on AFL Premiership 2006 leading up to the game's release.

I usually explain that being a gamer (nerd) is not that different to being a regular guy (jock):
Just replace watching Sunday afternoon sport with Sunday afternoon gaming.

This explanation is to make sure that anyone listening (including a potential mate) can draw a parallel between my puerile passtime and one that is more socially acceptable. Either way it means I wont be helping with the dishes until the full time siren (Boss is dead).

This explaination works really well... as an explaination. I guarantee though that any GF who accepts this as reasonable to begin with will be able to foster more hatred for the box of joy under your TV that for a team of strapping young men.

Whats this got to do with a licenced(strike 1) AFL(strike 2) SONY(strike 3) game?

Its so far outside my world view I cant even comprehend it.

I'm a game nut and a sport nut, and a footy nut to boot.

However, there has never, and will never be, a good AFL game.

Generic blonde Essendon player kicks it to generic brunette Essendon player, but its intercepted by generic blonde Sydney player.

I'm also enjoy video games and watching football, but if they ever make a good AFL game I'll eat my hat. Hell, if they make a decent one I'll eat my hat.

April 2005, as a sport and sport gaming lover, I was anxiously waiting the much anticipated AFL Premiership 2005. It promist so much, even being able to put yourself into the game. When it finally came out, what was it, 6 months later? Me and my brother had ordered it, and I was there within a flash of when I could pick it up. Well, to be straight forward, that game was back on its shelf within 2 hours.
It was horrible, a step backward from 2004 premiership edition for sure, and I have never seen a sport game go backwards so much.
Ok, sony and IR Gurus don't have the power, be that a hundreth of the power that EA Sports has at its disposal, but I reckon the AFL games is about 7-8 years behind EA Sports.
Please, don't worry so much about that putting yourself into the game crap, if i could play with the players and actually recognise who they were by looking at them, I wouldn't care about myself what-so-ever.
Good luck IR Gurus & Sony, you're going to need it, 2 year contract with AFL...last chance, GET IT RIGHT!
