E3 2006: Dawn of Mana screens

PS2 News | Mana returns on PS2.
While we did see the spin off Legend of Mana on PS1, and the re-make of a prequel Sword of Mana, there still has not been a proper sequel to the Super Nintendo Classic Secret of Mana - until now. Both Dawn of Manaon PS2 and Children of Mana on DS are finally set to expand the Mana universe, and we've got some info on the former. Dawn promises to reveal the origins of the Mana Tree and Sword, which featured in the 'history lesson' intro in the Super Nintendo game. The DS game is set 10 years after that.

Exclusive to PS2, Dawn brings the series into 3D for the first time, and an emphasis in the game is environmentally interactivity - the chain whip returns to swing on anything that hangs. The main combat will be typical hack and slash, of course with the signature mana attack charges and leveling up. Square Enix have also promised that we'll see plenty of rabbits.

Dawn of Mana doesn't have a release date yet, but We've got the first shots of the game in action - check the media panel on the right!

Secret of Mana........what an excellent SNES game that was.

I haven't been heavily involved in the world of Mana since that great SNES masterpiece so I think this release on the PS2 represents my return.

I can't wait to get my hands on this.....

I've never played a Mana game, but this one certainly has me intrigued. I'm particularly impressed by the quality of the visuals for the game - the first time I saw screens for this I assumed that it was running on something better than a PS2.
