More Guitar Hero II songs revealed

PS2 News | Far better than the first.
The October issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly has revealed a few more of the songs that will be included in Guitar Hero 2. Some of the new songs include The Police's Message in a Bottle as well as Motley Crue's Shout at the Devil.

That brings the confirmed number of songs to twenty three, although the final game is supposed to have about forty songs, so there is still plenty to be revealed. All of the confirmed tracks are listed below:

Complete Confirmed Guitar Hero II Tracklist:
  • Nirvana: Heart-Shaped Box
  • Van Halen: You Really Got Me
  • Guns 'N' Roses: Sweet Child O' Mine
  • Butthole Surfers: Who Was in My Room Last Night?
  • Motley Crue: Shout at the Devil
  • Primus (Performed By Primus): John the Fisherman
  • Stone Temple Pilots: Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
  • Anthrax: Madhouse
  • The Police: Message in a Bottle
  • The Pretenders: Tattooed Love Boys

Honestly not crazy about any of these songs. The team at Guitar Hero really seem to be picking oooold songs. I want to rock out with stuff I am actually listening to now, instead of every so often on some old guy's crappy record collection. Then again, I really don't like much old rock at all, so there you go. Led Zepplin? Pass. Rolling Stones? Yawn. And so on in that fashion.

That being said, I still have GH, and it is fun to play - but the newer tracks are far more interesting.

Interesting choice of songs. I agree with Phil, even though i like some of the older stuff, some newer stuff would be great too.

Why does it say Primus (performed by Primus)? Who else would it be?

The only song I know on that list isn't even by a "real" band.

The songs in Guitar Hero were cover versions, maybe this song is actually being done by Primus themselves?

Well that makes sense seeing as I can't imagine ANYONE going to the trouble of creating a custom bass (Claypool has a modified bass guitar which has a tremolo, which is used during JtF) just to play a cover on a video game.

If that is true, the fact that Primus will be laying down their own tracks instantly makes the game better than the original icon_razz.gif

Yeah, Primus donated the original track mix for their song. I think they need seperate tracks so they get muted when you screw up ^_^

Primus actually went into their studio and recorded it for them there. That way Red Octane and Harmonix were able to split it exactly how they wanted.

The others are all done by the in-house crew. On the original, almost all of the bonus songs were by bands that had one or more members of the in-house musos.

And Luke, your list looks a little light. I think there's 25, not 23, that are official (although Drist's track keeps going in and out of the list).

*1 "Arterial Black" - Drist
2 "Beast and the Harlot" - Avenged Sevenfold
3 "Can't You Hear Me Knocking?" - The Rolling Stones
4 "Crazy on You" - Heart
5 "Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
6 "Heart-Shaped Box" - Nirvana
7 "Jessica" - The Allman Brothers Band
8 "John The Fisherman" - Primus
9 "Laid To Rest" - Lamb of God
10 "Madhouse" - Anthrax
11 "Message in a Bottle" - The Police
12 "Misirlou" - Dick Dale
13 "Psychobilly Freakout" - The Reverend Horton Heat
14 "Shout at the Devil" - Mötley Crüe
15 "Strutter" - KISS
*16 "Surrender" - Cheap Trick
17 "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns N' Roses
18 "Tattooed Love Boys" - The Pretenders
19 "Them Bones" - Alice in Chains

Wow! Really? Out of interest, is that an age thing or a music genre thing?
