This new game will be exclusive for the PS2 and is billed as a 'revolutionary' 3rd person game where the player takes control of an Autobot to lend a hand in the eternal fight against the Decepticons.
This game goes against the recent trend of games that feature drivable vehicles, since you automatically have the ultra-cool feature to turn into one and drive away. From articulated trucks to sports cars to...um...some sort of cheap VW Beetle rip-off.
In normal mode though, you'll be able to utilise various weapons including cluster rockets, homing missiles and vortex cannons. A cannon is not a cannon unless it's a vortex, I think.
Here's the sales pitch from Andrew Carter, VP of product development for Atari Melbourne:
"We're working diligently to develop a game that expands upon the TRANSFORMERS ARMADA brand to deliver a truly unique experience with intense gameplay, vast environments and an emphasis on combat. Every massive environment and character model will be delivered with an unprecedented level of visual realism by harnessing PlayStation 2 system's powerful graphics technology and techniques - resulting in incredible rendering effects and absolute immersion for players." Sounds lovely.
With the Armada expansion of the Transformer Universe came the ability to collect 'Mini-cons' and evolve your Autobot while the Decepticons vie for this ability also. The game puts emphasis on this ability, as a sort of 'power-up' and it is the aim of the game to free the Mini-con race, defeat Megatron & the Decepticlones thereby saving the planet Earth. Phew!
The game is set for PAL territories some time in the spring of 2004 for PlayStation 2 only.
