Earlier today, Electronic Arts and Square Enix signed an exclusive publishing and distribution agreement for the highly anticipated sequel, Final Fantasy X-2.
'Square Enix has a long-standing reputation for developing incredibly creative properties of the highest quality,' said Frank Sagnier, Vice-President EA Partners Europe. 'FFX-2 is a breakthrough in the Final Fantasy series in terms of gameplay as it appeals to its core fans whilst its enhanced accessibility will attract an even broader consumer base.'
'We are absolutely thrilled to offer Final Fantasy X-2 to the PAL market. We at Square Enix Europe will be working hard with Electronic Arts to ensure that this latest addition to the Final Fantasy series is a big hit with both our existing fans and newcomers alike,' said Tom Yoshikai, Deputy Managing Director of Square Enix Europe.
Final Fantasy X-2 follows the exploits of Yuna, the heroine of Final Fantasy X. Two years after her defeat of the evil force known as Sin, Yuna obtains a mysterious sphere which shows her an image of the Blitzball player she thought she would never see again. Seeking closure for their unexpected parting, she begins a new journey.
Final Fantasy X-2 is due for a 'Q1 2004' release in Europe, and we'd expect the same to hold true for Australia.
