We contacted Acclaim to try and get some information regarding the title. We interviewed marketing and PR assistant Ben Pollock and present the interview transcript below:
Could you please tell us about the concept behind AFL Live Premiership Edition? Is it a spin-off or is it a full title?
In essence, AFL Live Premiership Edition is a little bit of both. First of all, the game will have an entirely updated fixture and player listing for the 2004 season. We have found that fans of the game are extremely enthusiastic about up to date statistical information, so this gives us a chance to prove that we are taking into account all of their feedback.
Plus, it will have a whole host of additional features and a number of gameplay improvements. However, primarily, this title will finally bring the series in line with the AFL season, which has been a major focus for us ever since AFL Live 2003.
Will this be the only AFL game this year or will a AFL Live 2005 be released later on in the year?
AFL Live Premiership Edition will be the only AFL Live title to hit the shelves this year.
What improvements will be made to AFL Live?
Not only will AFL Live Premiership Edition have, as previously stated, entirely updated fixtures
and player listings based on the 2004 season, it will also feature the All-Australian Team, Heritage Round Jumpers, Updated MCG, Bonus Video Content, Brownlow and Norm Smith Medals, New Wizard Cup Rules, Single and Multiplayer Missions and PS2 Multi-Tap support for up to 4-players.
Also, the development team are currently looking into Xbox Live dashboard support for score uploads, etc And as previously mentioned, there have also been a number of tweaks and improvements to the overall gameplay model.
Will the Xbox version support custom soundtracks?
This will not be a feature in AFL Live Premiership Edition. However, this is a technology that we are investigating for future local development.
Does it worry Acclaim that another AFL live title will be released so soon after AFL Live 2004?
Absolutely not, the AFL Live series of games have proven themselves to be hugely popular, and we are sure that AFL Live Premiership Edition will be equally as successful. Despite the immediate enhancements and additions to the gameplay, the fact that this release brings the series in line with the season will be the major achievement for this title. Which, as I mentioned earlier, has been our primary goal ever since day one, and has also been a frequent highlighted point with our consumer feedback on the games.
We thank Ben Pollock for his time. AFL Live: Premiership Edition is due out for release April 30th, 2004 for the Xbox and PS2. Stay tuned for PALGN for more information regarding AFL Live in the future.
