New Ratchet and Clank game in 2009?

PS3 News | Quest for Booty hints at more to come
Although the announcement of a future Ratchet and Clank title will come as as no surprise to many, a teaser at the end of their latest game implies that their next adventure may not be far away at all.

According to 1UP, upon completion of the upcoming PSN title, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty, players are treated to a message promising them that 'The Quest Continues in Fall 2009...'

This screen likely indicates that developer Insomniac Games’ next project after completing Resistance 2 will be yet anotherRatchet and Clank. The given date fits in with Insomniac‘s pattern over the last three years, alternating between a Ratchet and Clank and Resistance releases.

Whether this instalment will be released on disc or as a downloadable title remains to be seen. Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty is tentatively set for release on the Australian Playstation Network on 29th September.

Oh God not another one... I wonder if my little brother will ever get sick of them.

How do Insomniac manage to churn out all these games every year and still maintain a reasonably good level of quality? They look like they have a 9-10 month development cycle.

They probably have 2 dev teams so it's actually closer to a 2 year dev cycle for each team.

I don't know how they do it but all of their games are of good quality so whatever they are doing, I think they should keep it up.

It sounds strange coming from me (a huge Ratchet fan) but 'Tools of Destruction' kinda got a bit samey after a while. It took a while for me to notice it, probably due to my love for the franchise, but Insomniac have essentially been re-making the same game since the first R&C game, albeit with a few tweaks here and there. I'm not so sure I'd be happy with that again.

I really hope they shake the formula a bit. Well, more than a bit.

Sure, that won't be a problem. The most you'll miss out on is how a few character relates one another and a few inside jokes but as far as story is concerned, you'll be fine.

Insomniac have started a brand new story thread for the PS3 series of games, one that will span across the sequels. That's a departure from the PS2 titles that were pretty much self contained. I guess in that sense, it could be worth sticking with the series. I can't say it's exactly captured my imagination though...
