Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo arrives next week

PS3 News | Time to fire up your lightsabers.
Earlier today LucasArts announced details of a demo for the upcoming Star Wars title, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which will make its debut on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on August 21.

The demo is said to give players a taste of one of the early levels of the game: the TIE Fighter Construction Facility, which finds itself under siege by a Jedi General. The Secret Apprentice has been tasked with the job of hunting down and destroying the General... and leaving no witnesses to tell the tale.

The demo also includes a tutorial intended to teach players the way of the Force, specifically focusing on how to master their Force Grip power.

Wow, that's pretty soon. I'm suddenly very excited, guess now I'll have something to look forward to playing after my TV is free from the constant Olympic coverage!

I'm hoping this game will be good, but I don't have high hopes. A cop-out, realise the error of his ways and turns to the light side ending is pretty much guaranteed, but maybe the gameplay will be OK.

I seriously doubt it will be that simple.

Anyhow, who gives a cabbage about the plot - I want me some lightsaber action, force powers, some DMM, some Euphoria, and some Havok. And this game has it all. Instant Win.

This will probably be the first demo I will download since Bioshock.

It comes out 4 days before my internet is back up to speed. Hopefully it won't be TOO big.

Any update on when exactly it will be out? (ie, should I stay up late to catch it so it d/l's overnight.

It's already out, I got earlier and had a play through. Was quite enjoyable, though I was a bit disappointed at the minimal use of DMM. Running around grabbing and throwing troops at other troops, making chains of them holding onto one another proved fun, as did throwing tie fighters at other ones >:}

Yeah I played it too. Pretty good, not super great, but worthy of a purchase i reckon.

Some of the levels in the preview video at the end look cool.

Wasn't sure of this was going to be good, but after playing the demo, and getting use to the controls, it was a lot of fun!

I'll definitely be getting this one.

It's only available on XBL at the moment. Both the Australian and US PSN don't have it yet. It'll probably be up in a couple of hours.

Edit: It's now up. Downloading as we speak.

Just played it; too arcadey (powerups, lightsaber doesn't kill easily enough etc), but I'll still buy it.

Biggest complaint is how freakin' ugly the apprentice is. The character art is terrible compared to the angry-but-boyish good looks of the soul calibur 4 apprentice. Incredibly disappointing.

I'll have to check this one out. Very conflicted about it. On paper it sounds great, but I am still very apprehensive. I'll try out the demo but I'm not holding my breath.

When I first started it I was thinking "Wow, the lip synching is horrible and he's one ugly mother ****" Then I quickly forgot about that while I was throwing stormtroopers up into the air. **** awsome.

One thing that bugged me though, is those windows break far too easily considering you're in deep space.
