Bikes burn their way to Burnout DLC

PS3 News | Night riding in Paradise City from next week.
Criterion Games has today confirmed that the previously announced 'Davis' update, which is now known as The Bikes Pack will be coming to Burnout Paradise late next week.

Criterion believes that the latest update to the arcade racer will add up to an additional ten hours of gameplay to the single-player component, not to mention many additional hours hooning it up with your Xbox Live buddies in multiplayer modes. The highlight of this content update is the inclusion of motorbikes and the impact that they will have on gameplay.

The update will bring a number of new features to the title, including:

  • Players are able to pick from 2 motorcycles featuring male or female characters and start on a whole new progression to earn your Bike License.

  • 38 new against-the-clock race events to try your hand at, including Burning Ride and Midnight Ride.

  • A brand new in-game 24 hr day / night cycle that impacts traffic density and available events (which according to Criterion is fully customisable - you can make it day or night and change the clock speed).

  • Dynamic weather changes bring an all-new look to Paradise City.

  • 70 new Freeburn Challenges.

The Bikes Pack will be available for download on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 from September 18.

The lifespan of this game is amazing. How one update can give you more extra playing time than most other games can in total.

So, is it only two bikes you'll able to get, or are you able to unlock more by doing the new challenges too?

I think you start with 2 unlocked and then can unlock more as you progress.. Apparantly they're still looking into adding even more bikes with later updates..

I've been anticipating this release for a while now.. Criterion are definitely showing other developers what it means to have ongoing support for your game, and all of it for free!!!

I can't believe these guys are owned by EA.. the money hungry hungry hippos of the gaming world.. How are Criterion getting away with it?!

yeah there is 4 bikes in total, you get 2 straight off the bat and the other 2 you unlock not sure how yet

That's a really good point. Even if they charged something like 800 points for the update it'd not only be massively profitable, but worth the money, too.

I've actually wondered how Criterion managed to get this through Microsoft. And if it's just as simple as putting it as a patch instead of a marketplace item, why the Hell have other developers not done it before?

But this is Burnout right? You cant really damage anything but yourself by colliding your motorbike into it..

EDIT: replace "damage anything but yourself " with..

"take down anything and still keep rolling.."

^ disagree

Watched the trailer and was dissapointed that there were no slow mo crashes with the riders rag-dolling through the air.

Yeah they said they want to stick with the same family rating or whatever so didn't want to animate the riders crashing.

... whats the point of it being burnout then?

..without taking yourself down might I add. I dont see how a motorbike could try and do a PIT maneuvre on anything else at speed and stay upright. The fun of Burnout is using the momentum of your vehicle to knock other's into hazards, etc..

With two wheels, I just dont see it as a feasible thing to do. Someone please clarify how this works when they get their hands on the update.

^ I might if I can get in before someone else.

With that being said, the Bikes update is apparently coming out on Thursday. I don't recall the specific day being mentioned in this thread so I thought I'd add that just as an FYI.

There's a video of the bikes on Criterion's website though it's one of those spiffy ones which only shows gameplay of them riding, not crashing.

I don' thin it will be an auto downloading patch. Just like the last update they had it would be available on the marketplace for free. Because of how big the update is it gives you the option to download it if/when you like.
