UTIII to get expansion

PS3 News | UTIII to get expansion pack to help boost sales.
Fans of Unreal Tournament 3 are set to get a slew of new content with Epic announcing that the game is gearing up for an expansion pack in order to keep this iteration of the popular deathmatch shooter alive and kicking.

Although the game has received small content updates since its release, Epic Vice President Mark Rein believes that a full blown expansion is the order of the day to keep the number of UT3 players growing, stating: "We're working together on a major expansion that we expect will excite and grow our UT3 customer base."

Currently there is no word on which platform the Unreal Tournament 3 expansion will make itself home on, but PALGN will keep you informed of the lucky platform that will receive more fast-paced fragging action as more information becomes available.

I'd hope they'd have enough sense to release it on the PC icon_wink.gif

Anyway, I was going to get the collectors edition the other week from Play-Asia (if just for the 20 hours of map editing tutorials), but my friend's comments about the number of players had me very concerned. No one online? Seriously?

Personally I can't see an expansion boosting the online community unless it included the base UE3 content as well, if not you'd only fragment the community further (forcing people to buy the game + expansion).

It's true, there seems to be no one online these days, It's really upsetting as UT series has been my favourite for online multiplayer. I bought the collectors edition. But unfortunately theres no one to play it with, except my brother over LAN, yay...
I'll get the expansion IF it actually gets people playing.

There is a (very) small community of devout players online in Australia. At the moment we're running a ladder (mixed gametype) comp between the 8 or so clans that are kicking around.

So yes, we're still here, but there's not many of us.

An expansion would probably boost the playerbase for a little while, but I'm sure it'll drop back down again.

UT's community has been let down by epic too many times to be as strong as it was in the 99 days.

Yay. Maybe now they can add in some new content, or maybe the modes and options that should have been in the game in the first place.

What clans are still running? Back when I was playing UT2004 some clans were already dwindling. I know Fear and DX are still around. DEx are now non-existent which sucks, I feel like I'm the only one carrying it around in the little time I play UT3 now icon_sad.gif

Anyway an expansion sounds nice but unfortunately I don't think it's going to bring the community back.

I hope they re add assault! 99 had assault, 2k4 had assault, why didnt ut3? RTCW, ET, ETQW, all copied assault off ut99. Ut3 looks beautiful, it could of had some amazing assault maps that would of put qw's to shame! BRING BACK ASSAULT EPIC!!!!

xdp, nvs, poc, pr0m (formally evil, although not the evil that was around in ut99), U3, SS, RPG...

Might be a couple more but those are the main clans who are actually having organised matches.

The fear guys pop their heads up every now and then, but dissapear just as quickly.

Assault won't really do anything for the game. The reason the community left was due to shoddy UI and a horrible server browser. Not to mention the shafting of the more common and important competetive game types; CTF, TDM and duel.

They had message boards full to the brim of community input after releasing a POS beta to test. And they listened to none of it.

The focused way too much on showing off UE3 and overhyping Warfare. They claimed Warfare was a totally new gameplay feature, when it was a slightly enhanced and altered Conquest (or whatever that mode from UT2004 was).

Warfare and Vehicle CTF are the modes we play. Bring on the new content, can't wait icon_smile.gif

I'll pick it up day 1 and I'll go online with it too icon_smile.gif, I didn't get around to playing UT3 online much because by the time I got a computer to do it justice the community was already a bit too small... and I'd have been too out of practice anyway icon_wink.gif

For some reason, Unreal Tournament III didnt hold that same sort of 'magic' that just totally blew me away with Unreal Tournament 2004 and Onslaught mode. That was just the bomb!

UT III didnt seem to cross as much ground as UT 2K4 did interms of what it brought to the table, and instead just merely built on what 2K4 innovated with which in the end, killed my interest..

Orb quite simply has nothing on Onslaught's node based warfare in my opinion.
