Burnout Paradise’s Big Surf Island coming next month

PS3 News | Surf's up.
Earlier today Burnout developer finally announced a release date for the long-promised Big Surf Island, which will see the open-world of Burnout Paradise expand with a whole new island which will include a number of new 'mega' jumps, vehicles, events and freeburn challenges for players to tackle.

This new DLC is scheduled to hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 11 June 2009, and is billed by Criterion as being the "culmination of everything we learned creating Paradise City."

At this stage there is no word on a Big Surf Island release date for the PC edition of the game, nor is there any word on a price point for the DLC.

For more information on the new addition to Paradise City, head on over to the Criterion website.

Serious question; how many people still play Burnout Paradise? Do you think there is merit releasing DLC so long after a game has come out and had its moment?

If you like a game and something that adds a huge amount of new content comes out for it, you will most probably buy it and play it to experience the new content.

I'm worried about the price of this. I'm expecting at least 1200 MS points ($20) but i wouldn't be surprised to see it at 1600, based on the prices they charged for their prior Premium DLC.

That said, at 1200 i would probably buy it, as I'm one of those people who was still playing this game a month or so ago.

Does anyone know if I'm able to buy DLC for Bunrout Paradise if I have the US version on PS3? I don't want to buy the DLC from AU store if it won't work on my imported version of the game.

I was looking at the Burnout store via pause menu in-game and it says the cops and robbers pack is "Not available" suggesting reasons like "I may be too young to purchase the content" and such... well uh, I'm 25. So, I know that's not the reason.

@ brad_sickness. You can't buy the DLC if you have the US version. You can only get the DLC with PAL versions of games.

hope that helps.

To put it more clearly, PS3 Games are Region Free, the DLC is Region Locked.

Yeah but is there a way to obtain the DLC for the US version? I'm not really worried about it, I barely play Burnout online. Mostly offline. Just something I want to make sure of for future purchases of games.

You have to make an American PSN account, and then buy pre-paid US PSN Cards, as you need to have a credit card located in America for it to work. That's your best bet.

i was under the impression that this island was part of the three free download updates. I hope i'm not mistaken on this one. how would people without it be able to play the game online with people that do?

Sounding completely stingy here but i was only ever interested in the free DLC for this title. It offers alot of play time and is a high quality title, however, i'm not willing to unload any more cash into it.

Well they have pumped out a lot of free content for this title. The new island is basically a new game, so I don't think it's unfair to ask $20 for it.

Yeah but i'm just over it. Motorstorm 2 is taking up my racing time, and then when the new "fuel" title comes out, if thats any good, ill jump on that.

I'll still be on this, hell I've got a buttload of stuff still to do in the game, it's just on the backburner while I play a few other titles.
