Pre-E3 2009: Guitar Hero 5 acts announced

PS3 News | Over eighty enough for you?
Activision and Neversoft have let slip the full roster of bands and musicians to be featured in the forthcoming sequel Guitar Hero 5, publishing the list on the official website. The list, which is replicated below, is gargantuan to say the least. The variety of genres over the 84 acts named suggests that Guitar Hero 5 is aiming to be more musically diverse than its predecessors.

Guitar Hero 5 is set for release in September this year on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii and Playstation 2.

You'll have to wait a little bit longer for the track listing, but the entire list of bands is at your disposal below. Get that scrolling finger ready.

I'm absolutely loving that bandlist to be honest. 46 of those artists I know really well and enjoy listening to. Hell, I own albums for 18 of the artists there, that's almost a quarter of them.

Besides, The Raconteurs are exceptional and they're worth the price of admission alone (hopefully it's not a double up of the World Tour DLC, I so want Steady As She Goes).

Oh, and I wonder what the Queen + Bowie song is, could it possibly be Under Pressure?

I will admit that the setlist does look quite good, but that won't make a game better.

^So happy you felt the need to list almost every single one of them?

I would suggest everyone do the same as a joke, but I'm quite sure someone would hunt me down and slaughter me.

Sunny Day Real Estate =D

How did such an obscure band get in?

Yeah I know it's annoying, it just emphasised, I felt, the quality of the list that such a large proportion are bands I like.

When it comes to Guitar Hero type games, I'm actually a bit sick of people whining about the game itself. It's a tried and tested formula. People want to blow the distinction between Guitar Hero and Rock Band so far out of proportion for whatever reason. Ultimately, the mettle of these types of games come down to one thing:

If you enjoy the songs that are on the disc enough, you'll love the game. Peripherals can be discounted, because honestly - they all achieve the same end, they just have their individual quirks, and you can get used to anything.

People want these games to rock out to at a party with mates, and anyone else pretty much isn't seeing the point of these games.

Rock Band is more fun drumming (me and a friend both agree, and he owns GH), RB is better for multiplayer as you can save each other when you fail, have to work together for the big multipliers, I like how you can export tracks to your HDD and I have only heard bad things about the vocals in GH.

That's fantastic, but this is a thread about the GUITAR HERO 5 setlist. Not a thread about which is superior, Guitar Hero or Rock Band. So let's focus on what the thread is actually about rather than cause an unnecessary debate (especially seeing as it's been done to death a million times before).

So discuss this issue, like what songs you'd like from each band to appear (Butterflies & Hurricanes by Muse would be awesome, as would 2112 by Rush), or lament the lack of your favourite artist.

that tracklist is great!!!!! now why dont rock band make some of these downloadable so i dont have to buy another game!

Bring it on. Getting into the Metallica version, its amazing. "Give me fuel, give me fire give me that which i desire".

I know we have GH: metallica out and GH: Van Halen coming, but this is missing something without those 2 bands, metallica especially. Bit worried about some of the artists on this track list, I feel like Guitar Hero should stick to rock/metal and other genres should be put into Band Hero or Pop Hero or something.

I wonder how close this will be to GH:Metallica. They have made some key changes to the visuals that make it look much closer to RB. Which is always much better! Now, allow me to save a stupid mate that can't handle the solo on expert yet! :P

There is only one real big win on this list for me and that's APC. Been waiting for it to hit a Music game for a while and would be willing to pay/download the entire Mer de Noms album if they had it.

Everything else in the list is OK but maybe a little POPe.
Please don't mention the entire Mer De Noms, because that gets me extremely happy in the pants and if it doesn't actually happen I will be a devastated shell of my former self. GAH! The damage is done, now I'm excited thinking about it.

Oh, and dunno if you've listened to them, but King Crimson is an absolute win, I hope it's 21st Century Schizoid Man as that song is insane amounts of awesome. They're a big influence on At the Drive In and The Mars Volta if you need any convincing.

Does this mean we're only getting Under Pressure from Queen?

icon_sad.gif The other artists actually look very well picked, though.

Tell that to ScoreHero. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, I'm psyched for GH5 for one main reason, IRON MAIDEN! icon_biggrin.gif Rammstein and Children of Bodom are also drawcards for me.
