Arkham Asylum demo available this week

PS3 News | Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, Friday!
Earlier today, publisher Eidos announced that a demo will be arriving later in the week for players to taste a sample of what's to come in the highly-anticipated action title, Batman: Arkham Asylum.

The demo will be available from this Friday (7 August) with PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners all able to take the demo for a spin and flex their muscles as the caped crusader. Players anxiously waiting for the retail release will have to hold on just a little bit longer, with the title expected in PAL territories from 28 August.

Awesome! My monthly download quota refreshes on the 8th so I will have plenty of free GB left to download this without the fear of getting capped.

Awesome, will definitely be downloading this.

awesome - will have to remember to get both on Friday morning.

i've got the PS3 version ordered for the Joker content, but it'll be good to know which looks/handles/feels better before then, and if there's a marked difference, i could forego the exclusive content for the sake or more fun.

Awesome. (Just wanted to be part of the crowd)

This game, since some of the earliest gameplay trailers has kept me very excited. Expecting some massive things from this title. Usually i don't put too much emphasis on demos but they do still serve their purpose.

Even though, I've already had my hands on Batman: Arkham Asylum. I'll be clicking on that download button in a few days.

What were your impressions of the game?

I had a crack at this at Supernova in Sydney. I only played it for a short while cause I didn't want to hold up the line and hog the whole thing icon_razz.gif

But it was pretty good. I liked the stealth elements, cause I'm big on stealth games and the over the shoulder view ala Resident Evil 4 didn't feel out of place.

I wish it was out earlier though!

I really liked this (downloaded last night).

Graphics and gameplay seem top notch. My only concerns are that it could be a short game or could get repetitive. The trailer at the end of the demo does show some interesting gameplay elements though that should hopefully keep it fresh.

Demo is short, but definitely left me wanting more, more more icon_smile.gif

played through it on both X360 and PS3.
i initially had the X360 version ordered, more out of habit than any preference, but when The Joker content was announced as PS3 exclusive, i switched to that, so trialling the game on both was really insurance that it doesn't really matter.

and it doesn't.

i can't really split them anywhere - graphically there are elements that looked better on the X360 version (ie: shadows) but then other parts looked better on the PS3 version (the focussing seemed more refined).
the controls are mostly the same, a couple of swapped buttons meant i flung a Batarang instead of activated Detective Mode a couple of times while i got used to the other control pad, but couldn't split them there either.

and neither could i on the audio front.

so it looks like it really comes down to personal preference. if you are lucky enough to have to choose which platform, well with the Joker content, i personally found it no contest, but otherwise you could pretty much flip a coin.

---
i also wondered about the repetitiveness of the game after the brief demo too, but then when playing it the second time, i found moves and actions i didn't see first time around, and the way the enemies reacted was also quite impressive.
the only thing i could possibly fault the game on is that it looks like it'll be pretty unforgiving.
i mean if you're spotted by an enemy, it was near impossible to escape them, it was pretty much game over. now it could be that it's amplified in the demo because the levels are small, and there really is nowhere to run, but hopefully as the levels get larger, we're given methods of escaping/retreating to fight another day.

on the other hand, it seems there's a lot of alternative dialogue recorded, so if you do have to reload, you'll hear something slightly different each time.
