God of War 1 & 2 remastered

PS3 News | On a Blu-Ray disc with trophy support.
People who want to experience God of War and God of War II again (or for the first time) will have their wishes granted, with the two games to be re-released in remastered form on a single Blu-ray disc.

Product Marketing Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, Anthony Caiazzo, announced on the PlayStation blog that the original games would now be in 720p HD format with “anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring the PlayStation Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the very first time.”

The God of War Collection is due for release this “holiday season” for US $40, so Aussie gamers can expect to pay somewhere around double this price, which is still a pretty sweet deal for two of the best games of the last generation. It will also help tide over Kratos fans until the release of God of War III in March next year.

Wow this is totally awesome! I have both on PS2 already but if it's properly upscaled this could be a great time-waster for PS3 players. Will pick up for sure, as long as they don't try to rip us off.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is one of those things that only gets released in the US...although that won't stop us being able to import if the games have been PS3'ised and aren't subject to the PS2 region locks (which if they have trophies you have to assume they are PS3'ised).

This is awesome - Me picking this up for sure ...

Prediction - JB $69 on catalogue...

Time for me to sell my God Of War 1 and 2 (Limited Edition) disks - any one up for them?? - icon_biggrin.gif

I was so close to buying both GOW 1 and 2 last week, as I'd given up on hoping Sony would release some kind of collection for them. This remastered release for the PS3 seems like a dream come true! icon_smile.gif

So another reason for not including PS2 BC is revealed...

I'd buy it God of War games were great.

They should also release a remastered collection for Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 on Xbox or Ps3.

Honestly? I'm trying to put as much distance between those games and the incoming sequel as possible.

After GOWII, which was like a second toasted sandwich - tastes the same but somehow not as gooD. I had had just about enough of Krato's same same gameplay. Nothing I have seen of GOWIII makes me think it will be any different.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and familiarity breeds contempt.
I'll wait so I can forget a little of what made the first serve so tasty.

I'll buy this, because I'm a shameless whore for Trophies and I can't deal with 4:3 any more, but I'm really hoping that this'll encourage Sony to release more remastered PS2 packs. To the tune of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, specifically. Imagine SOTC at 720p and 60FPS...

This is pretty much the first thing I thought of when I heard this news. ICO and SotC remastered before the release of The Last Guardian. Make it happen Sony!

Oh, and GoW I/II is pretty great too. I was just thinking about replaying them a few days ago. Time to postpone that.

I've already finished them both on the PS2 but I'm still buying this. Lets hope they release an uncensored version of the orignal here too.

the original was censored?

anyway - i was also thinking of running through these again on PS2 - will probably just wait for this now.

though Dopp has a point - i might play 3 first, and then replay 1 and 2.

Was thinking of buying GOWII recently cause I've played it through but only rented it. I'll hold off until this comes out. Should be sweet playing them again in HD.

While that would be great, it would also kind of annoy me. I bought Ico and Shadow of the Colossus recently in the belief that they would continue to increase in value. If they were re-released on PS3 that would massively devalue my purchases.

Pure awesome. I was thinking of replaying them again anyways but I think I'll wait for this one to come out! They are easily 2 of my all time favourites.
And yeah, the same treatment to ico and sotc is a no brainer. I just recently played thru collossus again but I would definitely not say no to a remastered rerelease!

There was a bit where you had to sacrifice a human in a cage to do... something. In the Australian version (probably the PAL version, really), he was replaced with one of the generic enemies in the game to take the edge off. I don't think anybody really cared either way, since it was one of the most frustrating parts of the game and I know as soon as I got past it I blocked it from memory as much as possible.

Actually, God of War 1 had a few things like that. Atrociously difficult sections that came out of nowhere to completely destroy the difficulty curve. You only have to mention 'Pillars of Hades' to send most gamers into furious rage. I wonder if they'll consider toning some of those parts down for these updated versions. God of War 2 was perfect, though icon_wink.gif

i just started playing GOW1 again and all of the CG scenes are skiping to the point that they're unwatchable. my ps2 drive is obvioulsy on the way out so this is the perfect solution. it's a must buy for me. and personally i think GOW2 was better than 1. i remember playing 1 and thinking theres no way they could top that but 2 did it and i can't remember being so pumped for the next game as i was after the ending for GOW2.

oh, i vaguely remember the bit - there's a "clue" nearby from someone who couldn't kill them. you have to push a caged monster along for a bit, and then into a fire? opens some door or other.

heh, i didn't actually know that was censored, but it makes sense now, given why would anyone who'd made it to that door have qualms about killing another monster?

Keep at it dopp - having played GoW III a bit it's um...not that different.

It's pretty though.

That being said, I'll be buying the remastered version for sure. I'm a sucker for HD and more AA.

Finished 1 and thought it was epic. Didn't get my chances with 2, worth the investment. Story wise no doubt but technologically?

Is anyone else thinking... PS3 Slim won't have backwards compatibility but Sony will release the classics in a remastered HD format?

Or has the cynical bone just taken over my brain?

Edit: Whoops! Missed Mr Waffles post above which is the same vein.
