Batman: Arkham Asylum bargain round-up

PS3 News | Na-na-na-na-na-na-na bargains!
It’s time to put on your masks, capes and terrify the villains of Gotham, Batman: Arkham Asylum is released on Aussie shores first thing tomorrow and to celebrate we’ve compiled a list of specials which will be available across retailers. But first, we’ll give you the low down on what this guide covers and the different versions that are on sale.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however, there will also be a PC version released a little later in the month. This guide covers the console versions only. Like most big name games these days, Arkham Asylum has been released in two different packs – a Standard Edition and Collector’s Edition. The Standard Edition is of course just the standalone game and normally retails for $119.95. The Collector’s Edition has a suggested retail price of $149.95, and contains a copy of the game, a 14" Batarang with stand, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a journal detailing the cell-mates of Arkham Asylum, and a code to download a bonus Challenge map.

Because of the relatively high suggested retail price, some of you may be disappointed to learn the game isn’t being sold below $80 anywhere. In fact, the best price we were able to find was at Gametraders, who are charging $89.97. The next best option is Kmart, where you can pick the game up for $94. Sadly, no one appears to have the Collector’s Edition on sale, which is a major bummer for Batman enthusiasts. It is worth mentioning, however, that Dick Smith is running a promotion where if you purchase the new PlayStation 3 Slim console for $499 you’ll receive the standard edition for FREE – certainly better than the other PS3 Slim deals running at the moment.

In case your wallet doesn’t want to take such a huge hit, there are three trade-in deals available. By trading-in one eligible title at GAME, you can walk out of the store with the standard edition for just $49.95. Similarly, if you trade-in two eligible titles at EB Games you can walk out with the standard edition for $39.95. Finally, JB is offering the standard edition for FREE when you trade-in three games - as always be sure to check their exclusions list (.pdf file) before charging into your local store.

A full list of specials can be found below. If you have anything to add to this list please email joseph.rositano@palgn.com.au or leave a message in the comments section. Prices were correct at time of publishing but are subject to change.

Got the collector's from EB for $119.95 - matched Gametrader's policy of 20% on preorders - They had this policy on a couple of months back or so...

Just out of interest, I picked up the regular edition for 360 at GAME and they threw in a 'Villian Challenge Map' code and a little comic. That was nice of them (unexpected).

Dammit I planned to do that trade 1 and get it for $39.95 at GAME..

Now they put it up to $49.95!! must have only happened within the last 24 hours too.. grrr

I had pre-ordered my Collector's Edition at GAME, they had a 'Trade 1 game, get it for $69.95' pre-order deal. Not a bad bargain at all, getting $80 trade value for a game I paid $10 for. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow.

mmm would much rather have got that deal even if the CE is a piece of crap.. i should have been quicker icon_sad.gif

jb is doing trade 3 get it free at some stores at least, not sure if its for all stores (though would assume it is). as eb has a buy two get one preowned game free sale going on, it shouldn't be too hard to find trade bait.

Am I reading it right or is it not possible to get the CE now? Was it a pre order only deal?
No you can still get it. Heaps of people cancelled their orders.. it really is a piece of ****.

A bunch of UK stores (e.g. thehut.co.uk) have the game going for around 35 GBP, which is about AU$70 if you're prepared to wait.

Since there are mutiple reports, I shall update the article with JB's trade-in deal. Thank you to all for passing on this information to me.

No, the article is merely stating that most, if not all, places will be selling it at full price. Mind you, some places won't be stocking it. If you want it, best to head into JB, EB or GAME as they are the ones who WILL have it. Can't say about other stores unfortunately.

Cheers guys, as a massive Batman freak I'm going to find it hard to say no to the CE. I'll head into Game tomorrow and see how I go. icon_smile.gif

Just noticed on the EB eligible titles list there is Overlord: Raising Hell.... Is this a typo?

Exclusive list for JB really has some holes. I think I will be taking advantage of that tonight.

....thats what she said?

I don't think any woman would say that.

Yeah JBs list still allows you to exploit it as they still accept Fifa Street 3 which is basically free from GAME

I think the Exclusion List is about to be updated on the website. I just tried to trade in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and when they scanned it, they said it was excluded (even though it was not listed the on the website's exclusion list).

Hrm I was going in tonight to trade in Burnout Paradise (platium), Sonic Unleased and Eternal Sonata. I hope they are still OK.

As much as I want the latest game all the time like everyone else, if you can generally wait on the order of months, the price in the UK for most games will reach a sub-20 GBP price.

If you have a backlog of games like I do, waiting is no problem. I got used to that in the PS2 era...when I finally got around to playing some of the games I paid full price for, I could've picked them up for a fraction of that when I actually got around to play them. The reality of this eventually met up with my reduced time and now I'll quite happily wait till I can pick up Batman for around $40...probably in the new year sales.

You raise a good point. The urge to buy while things are shiny and new is so strong though.

Maybe I should finish Far Cry 2 and put some more hours into SFIV and Wipeout first icon_wink.gif

That place seems to only ship within the UK. Are there any UK places you know that are decent and not too expensive on the shipping?
