Yes, because never realeasing a game which has been in development for 4 years would make good business sense.

Difference between ID Software and Polyphony Digital, Polyphony has not gone bankrupt and required to be bought out to save it.

The difference is GT has made them so much money in the past they can afford not to rush out an unpolished game.

Rumors are that there will be a release date given at TGS... I'm expecting that date to be "When it's ready." If they really are shooting for "perfection" they've still go a long way to go. In the static screens the cars look great but once they're in motion in actual gameplay videos there's something a bit off about them. Then there's the damage modelling, they've got a long way to go with that based on the videos they've shown. Cause if they release it within the next couple of months they'll be only doing themselves a disservice to their credibility as "perfectionists".

But hey, at least Forza 3 is coming out soon, surely that will tide you over until then.

Another difference is that Polyphony have been adding and polishing to create the highest quality game they can. ID changed game engines about 5 times and never really got past an idea stage.

ID Software? 3D Realms guys.

As for the screens, they are acceptable. Nothing overly amazing imo. By the looks of it Polyphony are having troubles with getting shadows to work correctly.

I'm willing to wait an extra 6 months on this at least. Forza 3 will keep me busy for a while and I don't like games that are too similar coming out around the same time.
I wish the publishers would take MY personal preferences into account rather than trying to out compete each other...

Yeah, hopefully they make some official announcement at TGS (which is in 2 weeks). There are, however, a lot of rumours floating around that GT 5 will be released this year. Yamauchi apparently said that it will be released 'shortly after' GT PSP which is due out in 3 weeks. Also, there was the gamescom brochure indicating they were aiming for a Q4 release this year.

You might want to double check on that icon_wink.gif Since the PS3 was announced, Sony have sold off 60-70% of their hardware manufacturing. They're in a huge amount of debt as well. The only thing that's keeping them afloat at the moment is the Playstation (2) and Sony Pictures/Sony Music divisions. Hence why they shoved Blu-Ray in our faces and why they have root-kits and all that on their CDs and such.

Nik, you're always poo pooing Sony... From a consumer standpoint I have experienced nothing that compromises system integrity. Blu-Ray won the format war, move on.

Actually I haven't portrayed Sony in a negative light. I've merely been giving people the facts. Sony is and has been in financial trouble for a while now and they're doing a remarkable job of staying afloat where many lesser companies would have gone bankrupt. No one notices because they're just the same as ever. Hell, their LCDs TVs have jumped in quality because they are/were using Samsung panels (clarification: from a factory owned by Samsung. Sony used to manufacture their own panels from a factory they owned.)

Edit: A few Sony Published CDs a few years ago had RootKits which disabled the CD Burning functionality of PCs they played on. Sony were taken to court via a Class Action about it.

What's all the noise you're making about root kits?

And WTF are you talking about Samsung panels? It's been common knowledge both companies panels come from the same factory. Stop smoking.

Boy I haven't even got a PS3 console yet and this game STILL hasn't been released and won't be for another year or two years maybe even three. How come Gran Turismo 3 was releasesd only about one year after the release of the PS2 and Gran Turismo 5 is going to be released 4+ years after the release of the PS3?

OK, just checked their earning statement. For the year to March 2009 they had a net loss of 98 billion Yen. The year before that though they had a net income of 370 billion Yen. Revenue was down 1,100 billion Yen though, so they didn't do too badly considering that. I'm sure they're not the only consumer electronics manufacturer hurting from the economy problems.

Am I the only one underwhelmed by these screens? Obviously the game will look better in motion but there's some pretty obvious aliasing in those pictures, and the models for the people in the background are quite ugly.

i've noticed that too, i think it's something to do with the chase camera - like it's too rigid, or too floaty, or something... i can't pin it down for sure, but i remember thinking it was something with the camera.
