PlayStation Store Update - 11/09/09

PS3 News | Helloooo....
Captain's Log. Stardate 1234, I have noticed that Mr. Sulu has been acting... strangely. He keeps asking me to fire him out of a cannon and cause as much pain to him as possible. I would have obliged, but I have prior appointments with Mr. Spock. Also noticed that the PlayStation Store has been updated with a tribblet of new games, like Interpol: The Trail of Dr. Chaos and Fate/unlimited codes, as well as the long-awaited demo Katamari Forever. It also looks like Activision may be preparing for an attack with their upgraded Guitar Hero 5 warbirds, as a bunch of 'content update and import' downloads have appeared for Guitar Hero. Perhaps this is the beginning of something... wonderful. End log.

Supplemental: Apparently new dynamic, animated themes have become available in the Neutral Zone. Some are free, some are paid. I suspect the Romulans are behind this.

Well it had to happen I guess, paid themes for the PS3.

Where are the cool PS1 games that the US is getting each week? Kind of annoying because I'd love to pick up a few of them, namely KOF and SF games.

we suck, we get no ps1 games.

those dynamic themes should be free. they are just moving billboard behind the xmb!

I think they had paid themes at the start though. I don't think it's a new thing.

Looking forward to some of the Rock Band songs.

The US have had paid themes for ages (just regular themes, not "dynamic"), but it's new for our store.

The US PS Store now has Silent Hill and Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen as PSone classics.

According to this entry http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2009/09/10/‘heads-up’-playstation-store-update-10th-september-2009/ on the European PlayStation Blog, we were meant to be getting a demo for Fat Princess as well...

I guess it never happened. Still a good update. I downloaded the Katamari Forever and FIFA 10 demos, the WipEout theme and will probably end up buying Interpol: The Trail of Dr Chaos as my girlfriend loves those kind of games.

*obligatory post asking where Trine is*

But seriously apparently its passed certification and due for release 18/9 or 25/9 - according to the EU PS blog.

Really? I thought at 500MB it's one of the smallest. Most seem to be around 1GB+. The only one smaller one than that which I've seen was a 250MB Sonic demo.

As for Interpol, avoid at all costs

Does anyone else think devs should test themes before release? I'm grateful and appreciate they're free, but the new Batman one for example, has a bright white moon in the top right corner rendering any PSN notifications unreadable.

except for last week when they had the normal Burn Zombie Burn theme on there for 2.45 (or 3.45 cant remember) and not a dynamic theme

Dynamic themes were recently introduced on the Playstation 3 via the 3.0 firmware update. Although it adds a lot of personality to the XMB (XrossMediaBar), these themes cost a hefty price of $2.99 each on the Playstation Store.

Apparently, the costs are much heavier for the company behind the dynamic themes. Dylan Cuthbert, the President and Executive Producer of Q-Games, made the following statement on comments section of the Playstation.Blog:

“Remember that we’ll be lucky to sell even a few thousand themes and so the cost of developing the theme (3-4 weeks of coder/artist time, checking, testing etc) will still far exceed any money we make from it.”

Of course, there are still plenty of incentives, such as for marketing and promotional purposes, for game companies to create a dynamic theme for the Playstation 3.

Haha, there was no way they were going to like it anyway. I don't mind some of these types of games, especially when I don't feel like playing anything else.

It did.

It was on there at 6am, but they have since removed it.

I was able to get it at that time, the file is still on there as it is in my downloads history.

If you actually go to the Fat Princess icon, it gives you a "Preview" option rather than a "Purchase" one. Maybe that's a trial? I already own it so I can't really test it.

preview is usually the video that pops up of the trailer. if it were the demo it would normally have its own icon not the same one, i havent had a look though, but thats what its usually like.
