Thank the God of War it's not edited

PS3 News | Shhh... don't tell Michael Atkinson.
Fans of the eternally grumpy Spartan, Kratos, and his semi-naked, blood-soaked adventures will be pleased to hear that the upcoming game, God of War III, has been cleared for release in Australia. And without any cuts. Fancy that?

God of War III will be rated MA with a warning that reads: “Strong violence, sexual references and nudity”.

So for those of you who feared that our favourite face-painted psycho would have his antics tamed for an Australian release can now rest easy. God of War III is set for a mid-March release.

Update: You can see the good news for yourself on the official classifications website.

With Kratos slaughtering Atkinson of course.

That depends on how much prey Atkinson has already ingested when he initiates the attack.

Another example of how the Australian ratings system is broken. This and NG2 are probably the most brutal games on the market. Yet they go out and ban all sorts of other games.

You kind of hope a game like this does get banned so that it really does create a massive wave in the gaming community and get more support for the R18+ rating.

I'm just wondering what sort of power Atkinson's head will reward after Kratos removes it from his body...

... I also wonder if Atkinson actually knows how much he's hated.

I reckon Sony has a hand in Atkinson's pocket

So true.

As long as I get my God Of War 3 the way it was made by the creators, I'm a happy man.

I thought there was no way in hell this was getting through. Though I should reserve comment until I have actually played the game, I got the impression from the promotional material that the violence depicted in GOW 3 was too extreme to be justified under the MA15+ rating.
As usual the inconsistency of our ratings system astounds me, though decisions like this are hardly surprising anymore.

The demo was so graphic I thought for sure it was going to be refused/banned.

Ah well. First day buy for me, the demo was amazing!

that is awesome news. when i saw the footage of kratos ripping that dudes head off in the trailers i thought there was no way it's getting through. i'll be buying day one just in case it gets pulled off the shelves ala gta3 style. probably not likely but i live in fear.
actually fear breeds violence so you could probably argue that the australian rating system is making me more violent.

so this is purely on the OFLC's classification page?

I don't mean to be a spoilsport, but the first 2 GOW games were censored for their EU/PAL release in changing some torture scenes from a man into one of the undead horde.

but this was all done behind the scenes, to the version initially submitted to the OFLC, and as such, there's no appeal or resubmission record.
so it could be passed without the need for cuts, because they were already undertaken.

just saying.

I bet because you aren't shooting any one, they will see it as harder for kids to emulate.

I wonder if the new 'Collection' games in Australia are censored as well? I know my Asian version wasn't.

Yes, I tortured an imaginary man in a video game. Now let me feed on your soul! =P
