GTA Episodes head to the PS3 and PC

PS3 News | You should've known it was coming.
Ever since they were announced for the Xbox 360 as a timed exclusive, speculation has been rife that the PlayStation 3 and PC would eventually recieve the two downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV. Today, Rockstar has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto Episodes from Liberty City will be released on the PlayStation 3 and PC. Both episodes will be available either on disc format, or individually as digital downloads.

For those unaware, the two episodes are The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, which tell the stories of Johnny Klebitz, a biker from The Lost gang and Luis Lopez, the right hand man to the most powerful nightclub owner in Liberty City. Together, they show how elaborately interwoven the GTAIV story was and provide contrasting experiences to Niko's story in the original game.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are proud to finally deliver Episodes From Liberty City for the PC and PlayStation 3," said Sam Houser. "We appreciate the patience of our PlayStation 3 and PC fans worldwide, and we look forward to putting the games in your hands this March."

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be available on the stand alone disc from 30 March 2010 globally, and just like the Xbox 360 version, will not require the original game to be played. The digital download copies of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony will also be globally available on 30 March 2010, on both the PlayStation Network and Games for Windows - LIVE, and will require a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV to be accessed and played.

There is no pricing information available yet, but it is not expected to be much different to the Xbox 360 versions. While you wait for this, why not check out our review of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City?

I'd actually say Sony is winning the "Exclusive" market. Considering they tend to have a replacement for each of Microsofts exclusives (Forza = GT, Gears = Resistance, Halo = Killzone, etc) but also get a lot of unique high profile exclusives like MGS, Uncharted, Infamous, and Heavy Rain. Sure Xbox has its own other exclusives but a lot of them are nowhere near as widely popular (albeit still good games) as those on Sony's machine.

As a result of this, them managing to steal away a fair chuck of PS3 gamers with DLC (regardless of some people's opinions of the way they handled GTA4 you can't deny that it is one of the biggest series in gaming) was definitely a smart move.

I swear, every time I find a reason to buy a 360, something like this happens. Ah well, I'm very much looking forward to this, I would've bought a 360 just to play the episodes.
