Sony acquires Media Molecule

PS3 News | Sack Boy gets a new home.
With the massive sales of LittleBigPlanet, it shouldn't be a surprise that the title's developer Media Molecule is an independent development house no more, with Sony today advising that it has acquired the development studio.

Media Molecule will join the list of first-party Sony studios such as Naughty Dog and Evolution Studios which will make up part of Sony Worldwide Studios.

Sony described the acquisition as a "strategic move to secure excellence in game development for current and future PlayStation platforms".

Media Molecule co-founder, Alex Evans spoke favourably about the move, stating; "Since Media Molecule's inception, we've had a uniquely close relationship with SCE. Over the years they have consistently shown their dedication to Creative Gaming and Media Molecule, not only through their support of the company, but their willingness to take risks and embrace our often unusual approach and ideas. What we've achieved already with LittleBigPlanet has proved this to us and we're excited by this new chapter of innovation and creative gaming, for all involved.”

those DLC skins must be raking some coin in. I'm never gonna pay for those overpriced garbage someone can model in 1 hour. but yeah.

The thing about those DLC skins is that most of us have at one time or another had like $3 in our wallet that would otherwise be unusable and have maybe thought "screw it i'll just buy a costume" or PSN theme, or whatever.

Mm are the absolute kings of fun. I'm glad they've found some success and I hope they're able to work the same way they always have, creatively speaking.

The only time that happened to me, I bought some Rock Band tracks (on the UK store) =)

Let's just hope Sony acquiring Mm doesn't squash their freedom and style. It's a nice windfall for the studio owners though.
