Playstation and Yahoo!7 agree to a partnership

PS3 News | TV on your PS3.
In an announcement that is sure to have television fans across Australia feeling very pleased, Sony Australia has entered into an agreement with Yahoo!7 to allow Playstation 3 users to access TV catch-up service PLUS 7 directly from their consoles, from the end of August.

Sony Australia Managing Director Michael Ephraim has said that the service shall be free and on-demand, with almost a million PS3 users being able to gain access.

"This announcement reflects our promise and capability to continue to deliver on PS3's broad entertainment credentials in the new digital media era. This year in Australia we have delivered to the PS3 more music video channels on demand with VidZone TV, more movies on demand with the PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service and now with this announcement, even more TV on demand with PLUS7."

Yahoo!7 CEO Rohan Lund has also expressed his company's enthusiasm for the partnership.

"We are excited to be making our catch-up TV service, PLUS7, available through PS3 consoles and continuing to be at the forefront of IPTV innovation in Australia. Now, even more Australians will be able to watch full-length episodes from many of Australia's favourite TV shows streamed over the internet using their PS3 consoles."

The PLUS7 partnership also joins ABC's iView catch-up service on the PS3, which has been in operation since November of last year.

I can already watch TV on my PlayStation 3 via PlayTV but this will be good.

iView has been handy to have so I bet this will be the same level of handiness. Even if it is basically just a link on the XMB.

No date for this?

So we have ABC and 7... Hopefully 9 and 10 won't be far away. Fingers crossed!

How good would it be if this included the footy? Channel 7 have this years Grand Final or Channel 10?

No exact date yet, all we've been told is that it is meant to launch at the end of August. Presumably that means the 31st, but it could be different. I've updated the first paragraph to reflect this icon_smile.gif

Thanks for that Cody.

Now I just need iiNet to come to the party and mirror both PSN and Yahoo 7 content in the freezone. Part of the reason I like ABC iView so much icon_wink.gif

Good news. I wouldn't say there is a whole lot on 7/Prime that I usually watch, but I'm sure I'll find something, especially using this service.

Yeah, I always catch up with Good Game using iView, generally because I'll forget it's on or I usually watch something else when it is on.

Oh and repeats of old Mr. Bean episodes is always a bonus.

Thanks to random 'what the hell' surfing iView on my PS3 I managed to catch up on Red Dwarf: Back to Earth (seriously I didnt even know it was back until this past Sunday!)

It would be better is sony would fix the flash implementation so we could actually access these services with some decent quality.

So this started last night. I have to say I think ABC's iView is a little more user friendly, and channel 7 is seriously lacking in shows. There's almost nothing on this except X Factor. Eck.
