E3 2005: Playstation 3 videos

PS3 News | We've watched some of the videos, what do we think?
We've watched a lot of the videos now from Sony's press conference, and we've come back with some interesting tidbits, so without delay we present our impressions of the Sony Playstation 3 demos presented today:

The Getaway 3:
This video is set in central London and is an amazing demonstration of the Playstation 3's capabilities. London is fully recreated and it looks amazing. The camera zooms in and out to show that the action never gets "blurry" or "pixelated". There are only a few vehicles in the video but they look better than anything we've seen before. At times I was very convinced that this was just video camera footage of London, since the video featured incredible lighting and this footage made London feel like a real living breathing city, rather than a video game world.

Tekken 6:
We've sees no actual footage, which seems like it is from Tekken, so calling it Tekken 6 footage is a bit of a positive, this video just focuses on Jin and shows him punching and sweating. This is a very teasing video, but really left us wanting more. The detail in Jin's movements was just incredible. We look forward to seeing more.

Devil May Cry 4:
This is a harder video to judge because it is a teaser trailer that makes the game look very advanced. It shows different scenarios Dante may be getting into and most of the video is in black and white, except Dante who goes red at the end of the video.

Killzone:
This video opens with some clouds, and from the clouds comes a lone soldier, but he turns around and is surrounded by an army. Slowly the clouds disappear into a (very detailed) war zone and the action goes on from there. All the soldiers are highly detailed and look brilliant, this is a kind of detail that has never before been witnessed. It looks more like a movie sequence, than the real-time rendered game sequence that it is.

Vision GT:
This video was a mix of Spider-man and Gran Turismo and was done surprisingly well. We couldn't tell which part of the video was a movie and which part was game. The Gran Turismo section looked very similar to Gran Turismo 4 except with a few upgrades. At one stage Spiderman crosses over onto the race track that the Gran Turismo cars are racing on (more importantly there were more than six cars on the track) and the action becomes a little intertwined, this was strictly a tech demo, but it looked great.

Motorstorm:
Does anyone remember the game Rally Cross? Well, if this game was coming to the Playstation 3 this is what it would look like. This game looks absolutely amazing, with a collision being shown halfway through a race looking eerily realistic. We are then treated to a quick camera pan of the racing action that looks highly detailed. This looks like it is one of the most advanced looking Playstation 3 games we've seen. Photo realistic. If you watch one video then it must be this.

These videos are just really technical demos shown by Sony to get people excited about the Playstation 3. They’ve done a great job and the games all look absolutely incredible, PALGN will have more information on all of these games, as well as on the Playstation 3 as soon as it becomes available.

This article will keep being updated as we watch more of the videos, so keep checking back.
