PlayStation 3 units in production

PS3 News | Calm down everyone.
It has been with bated breath that video game fans have been waiting to hear news regarding the move from showroom floor to production line, and eventually shopfront, of one of the most powerful gaming systems in history.

And now, according to recent reports, PlayStation 3 units have already begun production. China’s Commercial Times is reporting that the first units will be delivered to Sony this month. Asustek, a company that many PC gamers will know for their hardware under the name Asus, are said to be pumping out 200,000 PlayStation 3 units per month, with this number increasing to 2 million in October. Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. is also discussed as another company which will be producing units.

Asustek has declined to comment on this news; however, it does not seem unlikely, as to reach its goal of a November 11th Japanese release and November 17th worldwide release, production would need to begin soon.

This is much wanted news for those Sony fans that have been hearing the predominantly negative news and rumours regarding the PlayStation 3’s production. With 120 days to go until the November 17 worldwide launch these numbers appear to show that Sony will, at least, be approaching the number of units to meet demand.

That's good news.

I find it somewhat amusing that there will be 2000 in one month, and then 2,000,000 in the next.

So they should have plenty of units for launch.

2000 in one month isn't very many, but increasing to 2,000,000 is a big task. If they can pull it off, they should have plenty of units.

I'm worried that Asus is making PS3s, I've heard heaps of horror stories about them.

I've had tons of Asus stuff and it has always worked through out the years, maybe they just had a bad run on certain product to get that reputation.

Interesting because the other day Sony just recieved the PCBs from their second supplier.

Something is fishy.

Thanks to everyone who pointed out that there was a typo in the figure initially published. The article has now been ammended, with the correct number of units being 200,000.

^sell them to North Korea for nuclear testing so they don't need to launch missiles over Japan.

Remember when the PS2 was released people didn't want Iraq to get their hands on any because it was such a powerfull piece of equipment that it was thought that nuclear testing could be done with it icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Yeah, I heard a few people discussing that at the time, it was pretty silly. icon_smile.gif

That's total BS, there was/is actually a technology embargo placed on Iraq since the first Gulf War. Just Sony's hype machine in full swing.

The actual story was that the Emotion Engine could be used for the guidence system in cruise missiles. Complete and utter BS.
