More analyst larks

PS3 News | 360 to do well, PS3 expectations lowered.
The folks over at analyst firm Wedbush Morgan Securities have just published their views on how the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will fare this Holiday season, with Microsoft's console tipped to do a little better than initially expected. Conversely, the firm has lowered its predictions for the PS3.

Between its launch in mid-November and the end of 2006, WMS expects PS3 to shift 2.3 million units, a figure down from the firm's previous estimation of 3 million. That's despite the fact that Sony has already announced it aims to produce 4 million consoles by the end of the year. During November and December, WMS has suggested that the 360 will sell between 750,000 – 1.25 million units.

It's not just on the home console front that WMS is pessimistic about Sony's chances, either - the firm has also altered its predictions for the race between the PSP and DS handhelds. In its latest posting, the company announces that, "We are lowering our forecast for PSP sales from 8.5 million to 7.4 million, and increasing our expectation for DS sales from 6.5 million to 8.0 million."

More speculation from overpaid suits as we get it.

Does this mean they think less consoles will be produced, or that they won't sell out?

Also, are those DS predictions for Japan only? icon_lol.gif

The implication seems to be that PS3 won't sell out. Which is mental, if you ask me.

DS rocks.

Microsoft is doing a superb job with the 360 so far... pumping out quality software every month, constantly improving Xbox Live and its arcade, and somehow bolstering software sales in just about every region.

Now if only that could translate to hardware sales in the regions...

Yea I have a feeling Ps3 will sell out. So much so that I don't even wanna pre-order because I might have a chance of not being guaranteed one.

How does one get a job as one of these analysts? do you just turn up with your tarot cards?

Frankly I don't care anymore.

I'm going to enjoy the PS3, and that's all I care about.

*continues to await an "analyst" report where they admit they have no fcuking idea what's going to happen. or one where they report that no one really cares*

Yeah, that analysis sounds a bit dodge. He is like totally stating the obvious. Highly doubt the PS3 won't NOT sell out.

i expect this generation the Ps3 will come through on top in the long run, But i think this will take a while due to priceing factors. im not sure about 2nd place, i want Wii to be in second but am unsure if this is a realistic expectation. All i know is that if Japan takes to the Wii half as much as it has for the DS Nintendo will be sitting high and dry for a long while.

regardles though of what i expect and and analyst expects, gameing is about games not who wins the console race, Wind waker was an awesome game on a console that did not do so Awesome, and this in no way matters to me.

all i know is that i will buy all 3 consoles this generation, even if 2 of them come of ebay.

I think i might do the Wii60 thing and i believe the analyst was trying to say they wont make the 2.3million mark.

Japan is Nintendo's no doubt imo. Sony will still move quite a few units with Final Fantasy XIII and Metal Gear Solid 4. I don't think it'll be possible to predict the other regions without see how the launches go.

That's a very, very bold statement considering the strength of the PlayStation brand in its homeland. PS3 will win every major region, IMO.

^ That list changed today i believe but we should expect that with the PS2's large user base people will always buy the good games available and yes i am saying that a PS2 game has take over the Mario.

I was merely providing evidence that the 'Playstation brand' means nothing to the Japanese if something else catches their eye. If the Playstation brand was all that was needed, the PSP would have sold better, but it wasn't enough.
