PlayStation 3 delayed in Europe and Oz until 2007

PS3 News | PAL launches officially delayed.
The official PlayStation 3 site in the UK has confirmed that the PS3 has been delayed in PAL regions including Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia until March 2007. The system will launch as planned in November in North America and Japan. Sony claims the reason is because there has been a delay in the production of blue laser diodes, part of the PlayStation 3's Blu-ray disk drive.

If you're thinking of importing, then the games will (allegedly) be region-free, but the Blu-ray movies will be region coded. This news comes only weeks after Sony Australia assured us everything was on track. The official date for PAL regions has yet to be determined.

We'll have more information on this as soon as possible. Please feel free to post your comments in our forums - we're sure there's bound to be a lot of disappointed readers. Nintendo will be releasing the date that the Wii will be available in a few weeks. Here's hoping it isn't the same situation with the Wii.

The Wii is generally trying to increase it's chance of being first while aiming for second and this delay was very expected.

This is dissapointing, but like La said, it isn't really a surprise.

What good launch games are there anyway?

Harvey Norman will be pissed. They've probably already spent millions on the TV ads for the 'November 17' PS3.

Look at it this way, at least a decent game will (should) be on the way.

I'm upset because PAL regions are getting screwed over again, but personally, I'm happy to sit back and watch and see how the PS3 goes. If the Wii gets delayed, then I will be crying!

But really, I'm not sure why anybody thought we'd get it in Novemeber. I mean 4 million (maybe even 2) worldwide? Yeah right...

It seems like this decision was made before anyone at Sony Aus/Europe was informed, just yesterday Sony launched the UK PlayStation 3 site...

hehehehe, no biggie, probably wasn't going to buy it in November anyway, just means i can devote my cash to my february trip icon_biggrin.gif

might even be able to get a decent tv during that time as well ...

What's worse? Not knowing the launch date (Wii) or having it delayed (Xbox 360 & PS3). I'm suddenly feeling less antagonistic toward Nintendo for not revealing the date so far.

Bad news for those looking forward to picking up one, I don't really mind either way, seeing as I wasn't going to be getting one till 2007 at the earliest.

Lack of HD-movies might be the answer, not a single Blu-ray player or movie on the market in UK atleast.

Personally I dont want to move to next gen consoles, none of them have substance they're all pretty lousey.

Oh snap.

Not surprised, really.

Hilarious! Especially after all the marketing and executive rhetoric giving Microsoft a heap of s*** for their apparently **** up "worldwide" launch! icon_eek.gif
