No online play for PS3 Virtua Tennis 3

PS3 News | Sega confirms.

The PlayStation 3 version of Virtua Tennis 3 will ship without a single online mode, according to a statement released by Sega's European arm today. The news represents a disappointing setback for those looking forward to the eagerly-awaited tennis sim. However, perhaps even more significantly, Sega's admission comes just days after Activision announced that the PS3 version of Tony Hawk's Project 8 would also be devoid of online play, raising worrying questions over the readiness of the online service that will ship with Sony's next console.

"Virtua Tennis 3 PS3 does not have an online mode confirmed at this time," said Sega's statement, which gave no reason for the exclusion of the mode. Hardly cheery tidings for Sony, especially considering that every game to appear on Microsoft's Xbox 360 boasts online functionality of some description, and usually online play at that.

Virtua Tennis 3 will be appearing on the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP and PC next year.

Yeah the 360 version comes with online play, how can Full Auto 2 come with online play (ps3 launch title) but Virtua Tennis 3 (shipped in March) come without it?

Somethings going on there.

Yeah but how come Full Auto 2 comes shipped with online play and VT3 doesn't? I know they're seperate development teams but you think they'd be able to share information about the network, next they'll be canning the online play on Full Auto 2.

This is exactly surprising, it's not like they have even mentioned anything on their online network side and we are less then 2 months from launch (US, Japan).

Wouldn't you rather play Virtual Tennis 3 on your 360 anyway with a nice smooth online network

PS - You're taking these PS3 set backs personally aren't you Luke, so seem very keen for Sony's new black box.

ive been repeating this for a whole generation now

japanese people don't have the infrastructure nor do they care about online play. its not a big loss for them.

What are you talking about? Japan is miles ahead of us, they had 3G networks in place 5 years ago, broadband infrastructure is fantastic.

They do care, it's just nothing like Live has been available to them, as they don't touch M$'s products with a barge pole.

They use Windows don't they? It's just that they prefer Japanese over American. Just like the "Made in Australia" logos here, people prefer to support their own country over others.
