Virtua Tennis 3 to support tilt

PS3 News | Now a decision must be made.
Virtua Tennis 3 may not feature online play on the PlayStation 3, but Sega has announced today that the game will support the tilt function that comes built in to the PS3's controller. Using said function, you'll be able to pull shots off and navigate around the courts. Obviously it won't be mandatory to use the tilt controller, but if your mum occasionally moves the controller around whilst playing then the option could be a blessing.

Now the decision needs to be made whether to pick up the PlayStation 3 version without online play and with sixaxis support or select the Xbox 360 section which features online play but doesn't have a tilt function. If you'd like to read up a little more on Virtua Tennis 3 why not read our preview?

Online play vs Tilt control...
Online play wins hands down. Tilt control is a welcome edition but to leave out online play is not good.

See, here's the problem, Sixaxis support shouldn't be an seperate option, it should be a transparent interface which adds to traditional control. Even the most seasoned gamer will tilt the controller a little while taking a tight corner in a racing game or trying to do a slice serve to the most remote corner of the court. Like when you go bowling and you turn your head, willing your ball to straighten up for a strike the Sixaxis should pick up on your 'willpower' and correct your traditional input. As it stands its just a another confusing option piled on-top of a Wii-cop out. I guess its to be expected.
