Warhawk confirmed as multiplayer only

PS3 News | Game to be distributed through PlayStation Store.
PlayStation 3 motion-sensing shooter Warhawk has been confirmed as a multiplayer only title. The game, one of the earliest PlayStation 3 titles revealed, sees players slug it out in the air and on the ground, and developer Incognito is hoping to have the game's deathmatches supporting up to 32 players.

"Warhawk has all of its attention focused on making a triple-A online experience. Phasing out the single player allows the team to really polish multiplayer," explained game director Dyan Jobe in an interview with IGN, admitting that, "Single player just wasn't up to par. We owe it to players not to force them to buy something that isn't good enough."

And in a second Warhawk mini-revelation, the development team also let slip that the title will only be available as a download from the PlayStation Store. No further news yet on a PAL release date, though the game will swoop into North American homes on June 1st.

Wouldn't this be a massive download?

And if it isn't, why do we need Blu-Ray again?

The footage shown during the IGN Show is quite impressive. Much like Spanca, I've got to question just how big this game is going to be (download size), because they were talking it up quite a bit.

Sounds excellent though - Achievement like rewards (medals, ribbons etc.), dedicated servers, capture the flag, deathmatch and more. My interest in the game has skyrocketed.

Warhawk with 32 players would be really stupidy insane (which is mad). I am actually pleased it is a downloadable game (would not want to pay 100 for a flyer)

But yeah it would have to be a really large file like 2-3 gigs.

Any news on if there are different stages of things?

I've waited ages for this game, and only now do they tell me it isn't a real game.

Well this sucks.

But an "Ace Combat 7" would be just as good. icon_wink.gif

Excellent news- good to hear they're concentrating on multiplayer, because that's clearly going to be where it's at for this title. Like Mark, I didn't care much for this before but my interest has now piqued.

Somewhat disappointing as it'd be cool for single player, but at the same time polished MP-only gameplay where there are mass amounts of planes flying around destroying each other constantly has me jumping for joy.

Saying that makes me want to rethink getting the game now.

Only question is how to connect the PS3's network cable to the adsl modem...from my room (it and the loungeroom have quite a distant seperation).

I would not thikn that woudl be that great for single player. Just too fast, and basically very tiring.

But multiplayer on that would be unreal. I am actuall more impressed with the six-axis on that game, than any wii game atm. After watching the guy at E3 i freaked out. But i am looking forward to this.

Enemy Territory was a multiplayer only game, and it was worth every single...

...wait it was free. Still, a modest price wouldn't hurt.

I think they would charge $10-$15 AU, or are we already priced?

If single player sucked, why should we believe that the multiplayer version of the same game should be any good?

It wouldn't be very big on the disc space if Sony stick to the 500MB limit that they have set for it.

People if you want to see this game in action and see how damn good it looks go to www.ign.com and download the latest ign weekly. It looks really really good. It's not just a airplane game trust me hehe bring it on icon_smile.gif

"It's not just an airplane game"? The most notable thing about it is that it is controlled by the SIXAXIS. That's not to say that it's bad (it isn't), but to go so far as to say that "it's not just an airplane game" makes it out to be more important and better than it actually is. That said, it should do fine as a multiplayer-only game - though I was expecting it to be a fully-fledged title, considering the press coverage it got.

no i meant you see i thought it was just a airplane game but once i saw the video i recommended i had no idea you can take control of tanks or just run around with weapons. I didn't mean to hype it hehe

^^ OK, I get what you're saying. Damn ambiguous sentences!

The game isn't a download, it'll be distributed via Blu-Ray disc. That appears to have been a misunderstanding.
