New Gran Turismo 5 Prologue screenshots

PS3 News | Try not to drool too much.
The petrolhead developers over at Polyphony Digital updated their official Gran Turismo website press page last night, uploading not one, not two, but 23 new images from their upcoming PlayStation 3 driving sim extravaganza, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Far be it for us to describe the spiffing details that can be observed in each and every last one of those screenies provided in our media panel below, seeing them does nevertheless make the still undetermined PAL release date for the game seem even further away.

While Killzone 2's various media releases may have questioned the infamous saying, the GT5 screenshots prove that sometimes simple seeing really is believing. Now let the rampant "those images are touched up" speculation commence.

Thanks to forum member mipac for the tip.

Love how the white lines are all cracked and manky to match the bitumen, thats sweet.

Too bad the trees and the people in the stands are still paper thin. Looking good though.

^You can't really blame them since the game is design to be racing in, not to stop and look at the people.

now if someone can do carmageddon, so you can stop, look at the people and then run them down. Of course they'll be 'zombies' that have coins spraying out of them judging by todays standards icon_sad.gif

When I see some images in the widescreen format, that are suitable angles for a racing game, then I'll believe it.

Well there is a screenshot of the car interior, which is an in-game racing view .. so believe.

I don't mean to be a smart arse or anything, but I fail to see how you could confuse any of those shots as being photo-realistic. That's not to say they aren't nice graphics, but to counter the overreaction of some to just how nice they are.

I dunno what this will be like compared to forza 2 but hopefully it will bring more to the table then GT4 ever did. GT has always been a solid sim but gosh its gettin boreing. I love having 700+ cars but we need more things to do with them. Still im keen for the full release of GT5.

I have a feeling the full GT5 will be better then Forza 2

I always seem to be bored by GT screenshots. Sure they look fantastic and the cars look as realistic, photo or not, as they have ever been in a video game. I just want to drive the cars and immerse myself in the greatest driving simulator ever made. Want to know what it feels like to drive the new benz but don't have the wallet to go with it? Grab GT5.

They're actual models in the GT HD demo, but they're fairly low poly and they've really ramped up the normal mapping on them so they look a bit fake when you see them in stills and during replays when the camera slowly pans across the screen.

I hope it at least equals it. They finaly have some hardware to really power the franchise now. That cant just build a game around 700 cars anymore and hope no one notices the lack of "game" there was.

One thing from forza/forza 2 I hope GT5 copies or does better is the whole engine swapping feature. More options for the gear heads out there! As much as it is a travesty to put an RB26DETT in a mustang the option to do so would be nice.

It's been done to death re: GT5. So many comparisons between the game and real life, websites that have 'games' where you have to see if you can spot which is which etc, and I'm sick of it. I didn't say anyone here was making that claim, but I'm vehemently against such idiotic proclamations.

I suppose everyone sees things different, I agree it still doesn't look completely photo realistic but I'm finding some massive improvements over the last games graphically. I mean look at this shot, sure you can spot flaws in it compared to a real life counter part but theres certainly parts of this shot which I find very realistic and I think it comes down to some well done texturing.

Look at the mountain and buildings there all pretty well done and I imagine when your racing at a high speed this would all become even more convincing. I mean If I showed this picture to my family right now I'm pretty sure they would have to look at it for a while until they realize its not real.

So I agree and disagree with you, I think we notice its not real quicker because we expect these kind of graphics at this point in time from games. However I can see alot of people who aren't so much into games thinking this is incredible because its so photo realistic even if it might not be so much to us. I hope my opinion makes sense icon_razz.gif

^^

the unfortunate thing is that, to me, the cars are the thing that don't look real in that pic.
