TGS 2008: Resistance: Retribution brings Dualshock to PSP

PSP News | Finally play a PSP game with two analogue sticks.
Joystiq are reporting that PSP gamers will be able to finally have dual-analogue control in a PSP game with the upcoming Resistance: Retribution.

Resistance: Retribution will apparently make use of a new technology called 'PSP Plus', which allows the PSP to connect to the PS3 to enable use of PS3 wireless controllers with the game. In addition to this, it appears that rumble will also be supported, however at this stage the technology appears to be exclusive to Resistance. Hopefully, we'll have more information on this connectivity as we learn more about Resistance: Retribution and its big brother Resistance 2 on PS3.

sounds good in concept, but need more info. I saw another post about the TGS showing and sounds like it has to be connected by USB. It would be a nice remote play type feature

its not REALLY for psp owners then is it, i mean its for loaded people who have both machines or people silly enough to spend 100 dollars on a ps3 controller to play a psp game that will innevitably be useless next to the PS3 version anyways..

Kind of a money grabbing paradox dont ya think ?!

Gross.....why have a PSP then? I thought it was suppose to be portable?

I'm awaiting the announcement of the PSP headband: the attachment which lets you dangle the PSP from your skull so you can see the PSP and control it using a PS3 controller.

I hope this isnt the only way to control the title. If so, the PSP's death knell will have officially been sounded in my personal opinion. I havent played my unit in over a year and 'ideas' like these, give me very little incentive to bother with it anymore.

You also need a copy of Resistance 2 in the PS3 drive apparently.

It's not the only input method - just for people who happen to be playing at home.

EDIT: The game is obviously playable without a DualShock3, this is just a bonus feature for put aside for those who happen to be deadset fans of Resistance. If you don't have a PS3 but do have a PSP and were planning to get this game feel free to just act like you never saw this article.

PSP Slim and Lite has always had TV Output - using a DS3 will just makes it easier.

You've got to be kidding me. I now am forced to assume the PSP title will be playable on the handheld with no strings attached..

from the article I read this functionality only added to the psp game. This connectivity was also going to add an additional game mode called "Infected". So yes, its a nice extra feature for those with a ps3 and a copy of resistance 2.

To play on your TV with a DualShock3 you need Resistance 2. Otherwise it's fully playable.

Have a read:

This would be good if you only needed a USB cable and it applied to other games. Lord knows it'll vastly help playing Tekken DR.

Isn't this like saying iPods are useless because you can plug them into speakers? The game is still totally portable and playable just fine without a PS3, you are just getting extra options as a bonus if you own a PS3 that otherwise wouldn't be possible on a PSP. I can't see how extra features can be anything but a good thing.

so you can already guess whats going to be in the *psp slim 4000* model, allowing all games to be played with a ps3 controller, and an *even brighter* backlight! (but of course battery life will stay the same...)

According to Eurogamer it is. I hope their right as well, also hope a new 'stamina' battery is issued for the 3000 series.

If they allow the DualShock control for the online multiplayer then it's an instant no-sale for me.

Would be an absolutely horrific design decision (if this isn't already.. I mean, making your portable game an experience best had at home?!).

So why wouldn't you just buy Resistance 2 for the PS3 instead of the Resistance for PSP?

Would it not be better to play a PS3 game on a PS3 instead of a PSP game on the PS3?

hmmm...

Can't Sony just release an add-on 2nd analogue nub for the right hand side of the PSP? (As a control option for games like this)

@ jashman - Because the story of 'Retribution' is set between 'Fall of Man' and 'Resistance 2' and they assume someone out there likes the series enough to play it thrice.

(devs want money, psp owners want more decent games, resistance fans want more resistance)

Oh I thought it was the same game, just cut down or something... but talk about cashing in hey!

(I guess I might do the same if I came up with the story, hehe icon_smile.gif)
