TGS 2008: Two new Dynasty Warriors games announced

PSP News | A PSP exclusive and an expansion.
At the Tokyo Game Show, Koei have announced two new Dynasty Warriors games are in development. One of them will be a PSP exclusive called Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, while the other will be an expansion for this year’s Dynasty Warriors 6 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, dubbed Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires.

Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce will apparently redefine the series by granting players supernatural powers. For the first time, players will be able to take to the skies and battle enemies at high altitudes. Another new element is the ability to work cooperatively with up to four players, allowing teams to “coordinate assaults” on the battlefield. Other features that were casually mentioned include downloadable content and “radical character customisation” options. Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce is scheduled to be released in PAL regions next year, we have included some screenshots in the media panel.

Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires was also confirmed to be in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however, not too many details were revealed. If past Empires games are anything to go by, players can expect a more strategic focus on combat and the challenge of managing their army, such as supplying troops to commanders and ensuring there’s a steady cash flow to finance battles. Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires is scheduled to be released in 2009.

Dynasty Warriors? Redefine? nope. It's been same game since number 2, and i don't see how anything's going to be revolutionary. That's the moral of Koei: "To flog a dead horse that never came first anyway"

Empires? Definite pass. Number 6 sucked, they could've done so much more with it but chose to make a half-ass game so they could release a "redefined" Dynasty Warriors 7 with characters that were purposely taken out and made to not have story mode.

Though, I still love you KOEI, you are growing tiresome and really uninventive.

Time to bring out the drawing books, and actually think of something thats not just "Fighting the same dodgy AI, now in the air..."
